AR Anti-rotation pins

From what I know of them they are supposed to help the holes in your lower where the pins go from wearing. I have heard it said that they aren't really necessary unless you have a fun switch. I have no first hand experience with them so if I am wrong someone can slap me.
 
pointless in my opinion unless,
your useing parts that are used,cheap out of spec or a poorly made reciever(worn),poor fiting of parts from factory,etc...
they are a bandaid of sorts

positive points
good on FA guns
needed for some drop-in triggers or aftermarket triggers
extreme rough service rifle(use)
 
Useless, even on FA guns. UNLESS the lower already has worn pin holes, and it takes a very, very long time and a few tens of thousands of $ worth of ammo to do that.

Or, the lower or LPK is an out-of-spec POS.

You forgot on suppressed guns and those that run hundreds of thousands of rounds of rimfire with conversion bolts...


They also look cool... For me though, thats not good enough of a reason to add them.

I forgot the .22 conversion issue,but I did not know about the suppressed advantage. VERY few can legally own them up here.
Does DI or piston make a difference on suppressed guns with pins walking?
Just curious---whats the cause on suppressed guns?

I cant own suppressors either, but in the interest of making sure info is complete WRT what people tend to believe/say...

Anyway, DI vs Piston there is no difference as far as I know (There may be if you have a carrier tilt issue though... But in that case, you have MUCH bigger problems before having to worry about your pins)...

You have to keep in mind the cause of holes being elongated... It's the movement from the BCG kind of dragging/running across the hammer/FCG and causing that little really fast pressure.

As far as suppressors go... Some people say that they put more wear on the internals and that elongation can be an issue.


To be honest... A new lower is cheap compared to the rounds you will have put through a gun and the other parts you will have had to replace by the time its an issue on a Non-FA gun.

So, unless its a registered FA lower or maybe a custom lower you built thats going to be running a .22LR Conversion... It's probably not that important.. Unless you just think it just looks cool.
 
That kinda what I had in my head was the increased amount of FCG vibration from bolt carrier. I'm sure there has to be some sort of harmonics issue involved in the wear paterns as harmonics plays a bigger role in science/everyday life than most of us are aware. Linking items together like the KNS pin kit does is no different than any other structural type link/brace... I would assume.
Thanks for the input, although I am knowledgeable about "SA" only AR's I am not hands on experienced with "FA"

Hehehe... I'd like to grab some serious property up in Nevada and build a cabin out there (I would honestly probably spend weekends out there). Hopefully that plan will work out in the next few years.
 
I have the KNS anti rotation pins on a couple of my builds but it's more for the look than function (but it doesn't hurt to have them either). If you have the scratch and like them then why not?
