Spector DR 1-4x

I run one on my rfb, my brother runs one on his tavor. Glass is incredible, and nothing is quicker to switch from 1-4x or vice versa. Love it.

I have been thinking about the os4x Elcan, which I understand is a DR without the 1x feature for Service rifle. Anyone running one of these????? The British picked this as their new optic a year or two ago and at 1199 list it is way cheaper than the DR.......and less complicated to boot...

Thoughts?

Good Day

I just recieved my Elcan OS4 with the C1 recticle, the glass is outstanding and is considerably lighter than the DR although it's still 1.14lbs, I am putting this on my SwissArms Classic Green, but as I have just recieved it I have not had my girl out to the range yet to try out the new optic, but being a fixed 4x I can't see anything going wrong with it.
Most important it is MADE IN CANADA

Take Care

Sounds good, post up some pics if you have a chance! I like the made in Canada aspect as well and it would make shipping easier if there ever was a warranty issue!

I think it would be interesting to see someone put together a C7"A3" concept rifle. I'd agree the Elcan OS4 makes sense as an optic - perhaps I'd better take this to a new thread, this could be fun.

I just bought the OS4x to go on my 20" Stag with a Daniel Defense MFR rail and a Magpul UBR stock.:D

So have I built one myself already???!!!:ar15::ar15:

New thread coming when my parts arrive!!

Looks like I will be the only negative report on the specterDr in this thread. I have a first generation and it does not maintain a zero after being shot. I find the migration of the POI occurs after about 300 rounds or so. This is particularly evident when switching back and forth between 1 and 4 power.

In terms of the quality of the glass, it's not that great. My ACOG's glass has a much more clear image. It's also a very heavy optic in comparison to other optics such as the ACOG or a standard scope.

My specterDr has been to factory for warranty repair and they actually returned it missing the rear iron back up sights. That only added to my negative opinion.

I would not recommend the SpecterDr

The 'normal' Gen 1's look like this. ARMS levers and magnification lever on the same side, and slightly different illumination knob.

Gen 2's have the levers and mag lever on opposite sites, the illum knob is easier to manipulate. The SOCOM versions are just differen colour, as noted. I've seen some with Docter sights mounted on the top rear too... seems redundant to say the least. :)

These are VERY good optics. Yes, as with any line of products they can have growing pains. The earlier version above was the one with some reported issues. Even then thousands of them have been carried operationally in the middle east, by SOCOM users, particularily the SEALs.

Newer gens corrected the issues and made them even more reliable. I saw a SOCOM version SU230 PVS go for 3000$ on Ebay. A lot of AR guys in the States pic them up to build MK18 or M4 Block II clones.

Yes they are heavy, but if you want to go from 4x to 1x on the fly, and have top quality glass, stubborn ruggedness and reliablity, this optic is worth the 1900$ tag for the civi version.

I would trust my life to only 2 optics:
AIMPOINT [M2, T1, H1] and the SU230PVS Spectre DR

that must make it hard for the Candians who hand assemble these units....

A bunch of Brown Socom Elcans, which are supposed to be factory 2nd, were sold at 500 bucks per unit to guys in one of the rotos. If you see these brown elcans floating around, most likely they were these seconds.

I don't know about paying an extra $1,300 + fees to my broker to import one just for the colour and a different reticle.
