Need to Pick some Brains for Building a Fifty

So, I have a good condition M2 Barrel and a machine shop. I want to build a single shot .50 bolt rifle. (or mag fed, if I can get plans.)

I also have the Bill Holmes book on building a fifty, but can't help thinking that there has to be a better, more eye pleasing, wooden stock model that I can make almost as easy. Equipment, material and skills are not an issue.

Is there other books or plans out there? Have any of you builders got any plans you'd be willing to part with?

Has anyone built a Bill Holmes model and what do you think?

Thanks.

I have plans for two versions of a .50 design, one with a conventional bolt, the other with a shellholder bolt. These are large, multisheet paper print sets. Also have a .pfd copy of the plans for conventional style, if I can find it. These are configured as conventional rifles.
It is my understanding that you have to be really careful with the Holmes plans.
IIRC, a friend of Stormbringer made a one-off bolt action .50.

Thanks tiriaq. That's what I'm looking for, a conventional bolt gun. I looked at the Holmes plans and, while functional, seems pretty crude. Any help you could give in the plans dept would be very appreciated.

I'll see if I can find the .pdf. Easy enough to email. Don't think anyone in my area has a large sheet copier.

Make sure you do your bolt lug shear strength calculations for the type and hardness of steel you are using. You don't want that bolt going through your shoulder. I believe Lilja has the formula on their website.

Check out www.fcsa.org

Single greatest repository of .50 BMG knowledge there is. Great folks to talk to.

I once posted a question on the members forum, and got a phone call about 20 minutes later. From Gale McMillan. For about an hour.
