Norinco M14 Rebuild & Face Lift From The Ground Up... [Project Complete - 01/23/2012]

I was examining the front band of your Brownells sourced M1A Springfield gas cylinder assembly, very nice. I even like how the 2 tabs to hold the handguard are 'bent' upwards (go and have a look at post number ONE).

I LIKE that modification and it's hard to do in my basement 'shop'. That mod eliminates any handguard rattle so that you will have consistent shot-to-shot return-to-battery every time especially if you are a long range shooter. Then in the past, I would GLUE in my filed down/contoured handguard to fit those tabs in permanently

Yes, your M14 addicts, that handguard gluing procedure gets very serious. DON't do this if you are shooting a factory barrel. Just wait until M14Doctor or any other vendor/dealer on the CGNutz community/forum land a bunch of affordable match barrels, then by all means lemme know what you wanna do to tighten up that front end. :D

Welcome to inspired (by 50Calshooter...) tweaking. Excellent job, sir!! I love to see you guyz doing this shzt to your beloved M14 rifles. You can only make 'em better! :)

Some of you M14 lovers are taking things to the 'next level' and I'm pleased. Nope, it's not that you are 'gunsmithing' on your own... and that can be dangerous; you guyz are doing the tweaking that makes this hobby (read: M14 addiction) so much fun!

50Calshooter, you my friend have made one beautiful rifle!

Totally new m14/m1a question here, so please bare with me.
Where do you order all these Springfield armory, USGI, Ultimak, parts from??

Thanks!

I got all the parts from Brownells, the Ultimak rail is considered an optical mount so it doesn't fall under the 100 limit rule. Everything else does though, so keep your orders under 100 bucks. I think I had about 8 or 9 separate orders lol...

Also the parts that were over 100 I got because I have a dealer account and get a discount. Just to answer your ensuing confusion on that... ;)

What's the story on the op rod you are using? Does not look chinese to me as it has the disconnector recess in the hump - looks GI or US commercial?

Fact is, nobody knows. The receivers were converted to semi with the holes for the selector welded over. The receivers are also not stamped made in china, so I really don't know the full story with these shorties...

My guess, which is purely speculation, is that Norinco is low on receivers and used or bought a batch that were intended for "someone else" I believe it's law that anything made in china has to be stamped or marked as such, these aren't so their origin is still unknown.

I wish someone would put together a package deal with all the parts you used (not the optic mount, but I want that too). I find it a PITA to order parts and wish someone would produce a package with all the parts together as a KIT.

I am still waiting on my M14 to arrive but don't plan to leave it stock for very long.

Exceptional.
Like Hungry, I thoroughly enjoy seeing guys take it the full 9 yards on their own.
Great thread, awesome rifle

bad ass, where did you get the sling mount/rail? I paid the extra for the SA M1A but still must admit I admire yours - very nice.
