Tips on M305/M14 ownership

Glad to hear you enjoyed your day out ;) I find these to be very reliable rifles.Take a look at your front sight , is the whole thing tilted a bit to the right or left at all?

for the record, i have 4- 3 usgi and a really old norc- which i can't /won't sell as it is the only LEGITMATE m14 that i can hunt with- i intend to remedy that shortly as i don't want to lose all my usgi components due to a change in gov't attitudes- as much as we wish to de-prohibit the real m14s, it could just as easy go the other way and the goon squad show up at the door looking to collect all the other 12(3)s under the excusethat " you can't use it anymore, so you can't have it"- i beleive this was the next step after confining them to the safe back in 05- however , the conservatives didn't do what they were SUPPOSED to do, and got a majority- that threw a real monkeywrench into the long-term plans of the gun control people- i'm only short the winchester, and the h&r has the rare beretta folding stock- the trw is in UNISSUED condition, so i know QUALITY,- i got the springfield first, right out of the container- the old norc shoots RIGHT WITH the 3usgis at 200
and if you REALLY want to get sticky about, it ask around the m14 forums stateside;
it's not the SPRINGFIELD that is considered above all the rest , but the THOMPSON, RAMO-WOOLDRIDGE that's b/c it was made by an aircraft manufacuring company , and held to TIGHTER TOLERANCES than the other 3

here's a tip....

Don't get complacent about your right to own this jewel. For if they can go after a .22 copy of an AK47 because it looks like a prohib, then they surely are looking out for YOU (and me, fellow owner of something that looks 'too badass') later.... maybe this decade, maybe next month.

Sorry, tinfoil must be too thin this morn... or maybe not...

Yes buy more M14 Norc's
I bought one, fires great, seems accurate ( not sure about the loose nut at one end)
but it doesn't come with any time to take it out to the range......wahhhhhhh

I can't wait for longer days...sigh

it is addictive for sure.
I am already scheming to get another one

You have to layer the tinfoil ;)

Until the LGR and reclassification concerns die, there will be no more cheddar spread on the old girl...and that's just how it is

Governments do what's in THEIR best interest  None of the parties give a donkey turd about you ;) They never have.

Nor have the banks

The sight is not tilted...but the sight is all the way to the right.I just need to loosen the set screw and use a drift pin to move it to the center.

WHOA WHOA I must say...

My front sight's tilted (base? these rifles sure are affordable...) but I've sighted it in ensuring that the chiselled/engraved line on the front was aligned...

I guess I'm saying see how it shoots first before you start bringing it into alignment. ...might save you some time and frustration.

Thanks for the tip, TACTICAL111! I hear ya, drat.

I love the boyds stock i have BUT the boyds (mine anyway) isnt a snug fit like the original plastic stock and you need to do a little sanding to get it to sit flush as well as popsicle stick fix & SAFETY CHECK.

I have used priv ammo with no problems, 100 rounds only, the rest are all reloads.

If you do go for boyds then it will look something like this.

I just jizzed my pants....again. Is that a stock flash hider?

I did," shoot 'N' see" and I am hitting 6" to the right.

Ah this is how it stars! You start thinking of upgrading your rifle before you even get it, hehe. I'd recommend checking out www.treelinem14.com for stocks and parts as well as well as Boyd's. (he only carries stock though)

Headspacing on these rifles is like a box of chocolates if you know what I mean but I've never seen one that doesn't shoot either NATO or .308. You should definitively attend a clinic as they are very informative and you'll get to know your rifle intimately that way and you'll learn tons from one of our Gurus. (I'm not mentioning names because their heads will swell but they know who they are.)

Welcome to the club, hope to see some photos and a range report soon.

Cheers!

it's kind of like the old vw beetles- you could stick with the base models and be perfectly happy going from a to b or you could go whole hog and put a rr front on them( remember the rollswagen), add boom tubes or whatever- or you could even slip a corvair motor in there- myself, all mine almost straight stock with a harris bipod

Get a second job to pay for all of the countless $$$ you are going to "Need" to put into her!

I am at almost 2K and I don't even have a scope on her yet. It still needs to go back to the M14 Doc to be bedded, and have my USGI, TRW bolt lapped into her feed hole! It should be close to 3K when I am finished, yeah right...

There is still the shorty that needs to be bought and tweeked for years to come!

Good luck with the addiction!

Cheers,

Ian

Are you going to the clinic in Port Alberni? I believe they are planning on bedding some of them. (confirm with Doc as I am not a 100% sure)

Tip #35:

You will have a love/hate relationship with your wallet. Love, for giving you the ability to feed it. Hate when you have no money left due to feeding it.

Accept this. :p

ragarding post #2, i read that the us/canada limit was risen to 500$, may be wrong , look into it first, i have found that i always have had an easy time calling arround a little and getting answers from our verry understanding neighbours.....they are usually more than happy to help...correct me if im wrong
