Hi,

It is my understanding that the OA-15 pistol mags that hold ten rounds are legal because they were born as pistol mags and not semi-auto rifle mags. Am I correct? (1)

If you take a ten round magazine that was born as a pistol magazine and then make a slight modification to it so that it fits your semi-auto rifle, is the pistol magazine still legal? (2) Let's say that the modification is filing the feed lips.

Thanks

First and foremost, you need to make sure that the RCMP agree that the magazine is in fact a "pistol" magazine by their definition. Simply calling something a pistol magazine does NOT always make it so in their eyes and if they don't agree that it meets their definition of a pistol magazine then the magazine could be considered a prohibited device right from the start, regardless of any modifications you may or may not make to it.

There have been instances where the RCMP have ruled that magazines claimed to be pistol magazines were in fact designed and manufactured for use in rifles and therefore were NOT pistol magazines.

In order to know for sure samples of the magazine would need to be submitted to RCMP for review and determination.
