Curious about production dates for the Reichsrevolvers, both 1879 and 1883 models. Have yet to track down much good info on them, and it's all the more difficult as most of the available info is contained in very expensive German books.

I'm assuming that since production was farmed out to individual companies the production dates are tied to both the serial and the company producing them (IE F100, Suhl could be produced a year befor F100 from another company). Just curious what info is out there.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I am equally curious as I am waiting for my first reichsrevolver to come in the mail any day now. If no one pipes up you could try sending a pm to Fig33, as in the very least he has the most impressive collection of these revolvers that I am aware of.

Haha - seems Fig33 is well known for his reichsrevolvers :D

Apu - you'll have to post pics and maybe a range report when you get yours, I'm interested in learning more about them.

Hello Gentlemen

Here's the production numbers and dates:
Model 1879: All 4 Manufacturers Production 1879-1883 Total produced: 84,931
Model 1883: All 5 Manufacturers Production 1883-1896 Total produced: 132,656

There were civilian versions of the M1883 produced but unless dated they are harder to pin down.

Cheers David

Well I just got my 1883 model Reichsrevolver(Erfurt 1893) in the mail. It's not the prettiest revolver but I have to admit I am very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the revolver design, points very naturally, nice and stiff main spring. Other than a somewhat loose loading gate it's literally built like the proverbial brick outhouse. Right off the bat the quality of steel looks impressive, solid broad top strap, chunky cylinders, looks like it could manage a very smokeless decent load. I will try get pics and range report soon.

Fig, what are you using for a bullet or bullet mould. I appreciate the original round used a heeled bullet, yes?

David

Thank you for the reply and very kind offer of assistance. If I may ask what bullet diameter are you using? I am seeing internet references anywhere from .429 to .434. Without slugging the bore I am thinking it's a little more specific and consistent as these German manufacturers seemed uptight on the detail/fit and I don't think they were too loosey goosey with their bore tolerences.

Hi Apu

I use Lee mold 90285 .429 200gr RF and Lee 90341 .429 240gr R. I don`t resize the bullets so they`re probably a little bigger than .429. Here`s a picture of .429 200gr slug and a typical 15 yd light target grouping.

That's perfect, thank you very much. Incidentally, those are exceptional groups for modern pistol let alone an antique.
