can anyone tell me what the cost per shell approximately is with all components not including the press as I was thinking about starting to reload shotshells as well as rifle but you can buy a case of shells for sixty dollars and do not know if there is a big saving to be had thanks

The determining factor(for savings) is the cost of lead. If you buy new lead shot (~$40 for 25lbs), your savings will be marginal. I stocked up on reclaimed lead shot($15 for 25lb) when my club offered it and I'm loading a box of shells for ~$4 a box.
It's only worth it if you're able to get cheap lead, you're a high volume shooter(trap/skeet) or you have specific requirements that factory ammo can't meet.
If you can find me 25lb bags of new shot for $40, I'll take 10 right now. I remember seeing it on the shelf for $50/bag back in 2006. Try $75/bag now. I don't bother to reload shot shells for that exact reason...over all, the powder is still cheap, wads are still cheap, primers...well..I guess they're still ok.....shot however is very expensive. I just buy flats of 250. The savings on reloading trap loads aren't worth it. The only thing I reload (which I do a lot of) are slugs and buckshot that I cast myself.
For anyone who cares, the spot price for lead is right where it was back in May/June 2007 and it's been floating here (around $1.00/lb) since Aug 2009. Sooooo, if anyone tells you that the price of bullets and shot keeps going up, up up, because lead keeps going up up up.....well....call BS on that REALLY quick.

My semi-local store(Gagnon sports) charges $39 for 25lbs of hummason 7-1/2.
Last I recall, Hummason was selling direct for $35 per 25lb.
Some clubs will sell reclaimed lead shot for stupidly cheap, you just need to search around...

I load my .410 for target and partridge. I can buy new rounds for 75 cents, or load them about 15 cents.
For 20 gauge, I load my own slugs, buckshot, and light loads for upland game and I save money, but not on target or waterfowl.
And for 12 gauge, the one or two cents I save does not come close to any break even point because of the time needed to reload and pick up large amounts of powder and shot.

I'm not certain but I think my skeet load is 19.1 grs of powder. Its a lee 148 bushing anyway. Its not worth it but I also load low recoil shells for a female friend and I like my light loads fast

The last place I checked here in Edmonton was at $75 for a 25 lb bag. DAMN, now I wished I'd loaded up with it in Ontario before my last move !!!! If I could get it for that price here, I'm serious...I'd take 10 bags.
Yup you can buy the cheap Federals and Win Super target, but if you already have 10000 hulls and 10000 wads and 10K primers like I do, it seemed to me to be a good idea to buy some lead shot and use up the rest of these componants. FS
rboule, i believe that Reliable gun in vancouver still has some flats - i just bought 250 rounds (10 boxes) of remington for about 65 bucks (give or take a buck). They have 7.5 and 8 i think.
I'm just getting into shotgun reloading but it'll be for buck and slug only. Really no point for clay target loads.
