Question.
Maybe it's been asked but can you reliably kill a coyote with a 22 rifle. Someone mentioned they were willing to sell a Ruger M77 ?

Thoughts

under 100 yards with a headshot yes. i have shot three yote this year with my cz 455 two at 50 yards with neck shots and one a 100 with a head shot. work pretty good. i was using velocitors. but if you want to extend your range i would get a 223.

The fact that it can be done does not make a .22RF a coyote rifle. If that is your intended purpose, get a .22 centerfire of some sort.

Thanks . I've never viewed it as a decent yote gun but told it would work......and that's why I'm asking ....never hunted yotes before

why don't you just go out and try it yourself and see what you think

Wow! Really? You would advise someone to go coyote hunting with a .22RF as an experiment? If someone asked if a .22RF was suitable for elk hunting, would the same advice make sense? What about if someone wanted to know if he could learn to fly in the time it took for him to hit the ground after he jumped off the CN Tower?

Try it and see what you think????

Coyotes are IMO pound for pound one of the toughest animals I hunt. They deserve way more respect than an experiment with a definitely under powered cartridge. You can kill a moose with a .22RF if you have the right circumstances; but, please, don't go try it yourself to see what you think.

I've killed them with a rim fire as it was in my hand when they popped up on the farm when I was out ground hog hunting. But not the best choice. I've killed 2 with a .17 HRM same reason. I got it done better than with the .22 RF
Here is best advice I can give you go buy a center fire .22.
.22 hornet min. .222 better .223 even better 22-250 better yet .220 swift about the same.........Ect Ect ......:.:.35 Whelan over kill but I find it did flatten him pretty quick
They are a tough critter and as much as I hate them for killing my Austrainian Blue Heelers they do deserv a quicker death than a .22RF but make no mistake about it if all I had was a stick with me I'd try to kill one of those bastards.
Good luck
