Let's See Your Mauser Sporters

1899 & Others; I have a couple of short 21 stocks and would be willing to "sacrifice" one for a pattern but would want it returned - maybe. Never heard of these Wildcat people, need to get some more info. before I make any commitment. --- John303.

In my mind the 21H stock is perfectly proportioned for a light M98. It would be neat to see a high quality composite version. The wood stocks on those little Brnos are very light, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1/2lb weight loss with a stock from Wildcat. I bet it would look nice on those Trade-ex Husqvarnas too - especially seeing as how many of them have cracked stocks.

Where did the replacement 21H stock come from? He should send that extra to Wildcat Stocks in Edmonton and have a small ring blank made up for all the Husqvarnas out there. It would make for a very slick lightweight!

I have a beautiful Brno 21H stock + matching Brno 21 hardware on my small-ring FN 98 action custom Mauser. Let me tell you it is light and a thing of beauty. I agree about such a stock enhancing the Huskies which seem to get tang cracks.

K & 1899; K thanks for posting the pics. Mauser owners!, what a shy bunch, there's got to be a zillion Mausers out there. Anyway Emailed & sent pics. to Wildcat. Will inform the interested members of their response. Does anyone have one of their stocks? would they mind commenting on quality etc. I'm a wood guy myself but would try a composite just for the chuckles (mainly from my friends) they'll think I finally lost a marble. --- John303.

WW1 Danzig Manufactored K98 (scrubbed) with and WW2 bolt complete with Waffenampts.
Repro SSR mount and vintage Kahles 2.3 X 7 scope.
The horrid stain was necessary to hide the repairs to the stock.
Shoots good though, my daughter embarasses her BF shooting against him offhand at rocks 200+ yds away with it.

Oh no - a potential source to easily transform an enormous stockpile of high quality but badly stocked rifles. Get 'em while they're hot boys.

Well gentlemen I have a reply from Wildcat. No and yes - no because he is very busy (which tells me be prepared to wait) but yes he would consider doing it if he had at least 30 units were pre-ordered. I suppose if someone - not me - wants to take this on (taking orders etc.) I will provide a pattern stock. --- John303.

Well....30 is quite a few, unless the inletting would allow for uses other than the 21H. Use on other small ring/large ring M98's plus the M96 sporters would make things easier.

Well if one where to get the stock made with say a 1/2 inch barrel channel, no provision for an extended trigger guard and SR 98 only as one model and the same for a 94-5-6 (shorter action) it would work. I have several wood stocks in that configuration, it would however need some hand fitting - especially the barrel channel. I would think most would want a drop-in version but there again the barrel contour is the major problem. One thing to consider also is the Wildcats run around $250, so suddenly your $250 - 300 bargain is now $500+, is it really worth it ????? - maybe. --- John303.

I hear you. With respect to the cost, you would have a very lightweight, high quality Mauser for $150 more than a Stevens 200 - or less than a tupperware stocked Remington SPS. I don't know. Maybe I should throw the idea out on 24hr Campfire.

It would seem like a good opportunity for Trade Ex to take this on directly.

I've got a 1912 totally original Model B in 7x57 that was bought in London UK in 1913, went out to Rhodesia, and came back to UK in 1989, when I bought it. It's nothing as exciting as the guns you guys have - open sights and all - but I love it to death and wouldn't part with it for a small fortune.

tac

tac; Can you post a pic. I for one ould like to see one. I know about 0 about the construction / composition of "Composite" stocks. I do know these stocks are made of various materials including carbon fibre. The ? is this - does anyone make a composite that could be "pared down" into the style of a 21H, it might be the easier and faster way to go?? --- John303.

jimmyjazz,
I don't mean to deceive you, but this rifle was rechambered from 9.3X57. The stock is not right, nor is the action (it's a M/94 from Carl Gustav, used before the coming on the 9.3X62 in HVA's line). The serial number will also bring it to the M46 range, means pre-1938. The proof marks (the crowns) will show they were made at CG factory (upright stamped vs "bent" or "sloped" for HVA).
The 9.3X57 were stamped 9.3mm (and they got X62 added when rechambered check the fonts carefully). The 640's have 9.3X62 stamped (no MM), the HVA crest (some may be stamped like the military M/38, if really early of the M46AN 1942-1943) and have the "beaver tail shaped" fore end. Very few of the very early 640 serial range will show the M/A stock style (with a pistol grip cap).
You still have a nice rifle to my standing point.

The others too, are very nice.

Hey Baribal,
I know its been rechambered, but I cannot find any Carl Gustaf marks anywhere.
There are no proof marks on the action at all and barrel is stamped Husqvarna Serial number 58** and from all info I can find it lists it as a Husqvarna M46.
Any input is appreciated, not going to change my opinion of it,i ts a great shooter.
