Would like to know about Sig P226 .22 caliber

Hi, I would like to to know a little more about the Sig Sauer P226 in .22 caliber.

Are they any good ? Are they steel or alloy ? Please tell me about your experience with them.

Is there any .22 conversion kit for the 9mm on the market ?
 
Sig 226 9mm has a .22 cal conversion or you can buy it as a whole gun in .22. The slide is aluminum.Nice and light. They work really nice with decent ammo..Mags are bit pricey for a plastic mag but they work ok. I use federal bulk ammo in mine with no trouble.

Do all the Sig have an aluminum slide, or only the .22 ? What about the frame ? steel or alloy ?

Only the .22 version has aluminum slide. The 9 mm is stainless steel even if it's black. I have the P226 in 9 mm with the .22 LR conversion. Great combo, shoots all kinds of .22 LR ammo with no FTE or FTF so far for about 800 rounds.

Most P226 versions have alloy frames but there are also in stainless (Elite).
 
Same frames, different slides etc. I think it's cheaper in the long run to get the 226 Classic and then a 9mm Xchange kit than it is to buy the 9mm version and then get the .22cal kit. I could be wrong though.
 
Does anyone know a good place to purchase a 226 and .22lr conversion kit? That, or a 226 in .22, or the walther p22.

I'm in the market for a .22lr handgun, and was set on a ruger mark III until I heard that the break-down was kindof a pain.

Not a pain, just different than all other guns, do it 2 or 3 times and it's just second nature... I really wanted a Sig in .22LR to start then move up to 9mm or .40 conversion and decided to go with dedicated calibers with Ruger Mark III and SR9 for about $50 more than a Sig Classic .22LR and no down time and less wear and tear field stripping to change back and forth. Now I shoot one, put it away and move up to the next caliber.

The advantage of what you're thinking is it keeps the same grip geometry as its the same grip so helps you with muscle memory and going for a .22LR kit then getting the 9mm exchange kit costs about the same as just going out and buying the 9mm on its own

I agree. I would rather have two than 1.5 guns.
 
The 226 with the conversion kit works pretty good, mine functions very will with Winchester and Federal bulk packs. Keep it wet with oil.

A better place for the P226 classic is Sporteque, $100 cheaper than Questar..
