M305 is heavy

Heh, I agree it's a heavy beast. Three weekends ago up here in Yellowknife I hiked a good 5km in bush and deep snow lugging it around at -25C looking for a moose that must have been 100m in front of me laughing as it trotted through the muskeg and willows.. Man, I was tired by the end of the day. We did over a hundred km on snowmobile also, and being outside in cold temperatures really sap the energy.

Back in my day, not only were the guns heavier, but you had to carry yours and the other guys' too. Then word came down from the brass that grunts had to mine the lead for their bullets, which you were expected to cast using your bare hands as molds. Molten lead shmolten lead. We used our teeth to seat the bullets in the casings.

And we didn't have gyms back then. We used the corpses of our vanquished enemies as weights. But that's nothing, the guys in infantry had it way worse.

I don't advise doing any of this, but maybe a competent gunsmith can help you with some of these options: carefully vent the handguard and the stock, lose the cleaning kit in the buttstock, shoot irons, carefully window the mags, lose the clip guide and the metal buttplate.

really? I'd think its closer to .5kg or there about :( (given that I am not familiar with his rifle's configuration so it really is just a guess)

Why doesn't someone make an all-composite M14, you know, like a Glock. Oh yeah, people could smuggle them in past airpost security. Forget it, bad idea!

Buy a lighter gun. Or, altenatively go down to Shoppers Drug Mart and purchase one tube of Vagisil then head home and apply it to your ######. Problem solved. Sorry couldnt resist.

Hey, it is what it is.. The M14 is a big 'ol hunk of metal and wood. If you run out of ammo, you could club a bear to death with it..

Well, maybe you couldn't, seeing you're whining about it being to heavy already... :D :D

JUST joking LOL

Anyways, not much you can do about it but hook your hand between the mag and forearm and walk on. Just think of the great size forearms you'll have though.. Good for self love... :D

or you could try BALACING THE LOAD- that's how the guys in nam did it-change out the sling for one off of an m60 and rig it fore and aft, so it balances on the hip, and puts the weight across the shoulders- the standard sling position was not meant for long carries, just parades

Damn, I came late to this party. I hunt with my Garand and think it is nearly perfect in balance. Sure, it could be lighter, but then it wouldn't feel manly like a Garand is supposed to. I agree on hitting the gym, most of us need the exercise anyway.
