M305 is heavy

Kidding aside, now we have had fun at someone's expense, I used my M14 twice in CQB. Most people aim before the whistle to shoot. I can tell you the M14 get's damn heavy holding it at the ready. More than once i said "Blow the gawddamed whistle Tim!!"

I bought a Cz 858 after that.

you ought to try it over your head like they did for punishment at basic- or at arm's length- it was called "fording position"

Lighten the M 14? Hollow out the stock as much as you can, then fill it with helium :)

Actually, there's not much you can do to make it lighter than what's already been said earlier. And that probably won't be a significant weight loss.

we were MEN ,then- klaplaugh

I was young dumb and full of..... back then , I had to attend a radio procedure refresher course and the inst could tell I was less than enthusiastic about being there. :bangHead: He made the mistake of saying .."If you dont want to be here you can run around the parade square with your rifle over your head !! Well it was the FN and I was young and in pretty good shape ...So I went for a run ...lol

Ok Ok I will strap 2 five pound weights to her before mounting her in a Jeep. That should read 'mounting my M14 on a Jeep'. Then crawl on all fours with it until I get to the rifle range.

Ok I've got a stout rifle but lets make the weight count. To tighten the accuracy the gas cylinder shim and uniting makes good sense and seems pretty cheap hardly costing a cent but how does the op rod guide help accuracy? Just wondering because that seems like an fairly cheap update as well.

I was pleasantly surprised by the weight of my new "shorty" from Canadaammo. It felt very light and tipped the scales @ 8.4 lb (with no mag). I think it should be well below 8 lb after I remove the flash hider, change the butt plate and remove the junk...

+1, 8ish pounds for a semiauto .308 is on the light side in my view.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand people who talk about the agony of carrying a 9lb rifle all day. Running with it all day with 30lbs of kit across sand dunes, I didn't listen to any complaints.
The Chu wood seems a little denser than balsa :).

It just does. Provably, consistently.

I think it has to do with moving parts recoiling having some harmonics that can affect the barrel before the bullet has fully left. But...regardless of the "why", the solution with these "match grade" guides really works, there's hundreds of posts here attesting to it right in these forums. And while some might prefer one 'brand' over another, they are apparently all better than not having them.

Hungry and M14Doc seem to feel that's either the first or second "accurizing" item someone should do. Also it may improve the life of your recoil spring.

Have never weighed it, but my Poly 09 with JAE G3 must weigh 17-20 pounds.
And with the Krieger Heavy swap in the near future, god only knows.

I may need a crane ;)

OK the -14 IS a bit heavier than your typical bolt-action hunting rifle (especially with a scope & mount) but it handles great!

If it's too heavy for you, hit the gym or just carry the damned thing around scouting 'till it ain't heavy no more!!:p
