Caught the bug, what next?

I bought an SKS last week. I've already done a trigger job on it and I'm on the last days of refinishing the stock with tung oil. I haven't even shot it yet and it's the most fun gun I own.

Before the SKS I wasn't really into Russian firearms. I've never even wanted an AK or CZ 858.

Now it seems I've got the bug. I'm guessing by next year I'll own at least 3 more SKS's, and now I'm looking at what other Milsurp guns I can get for cheap and fix up.

In five years I'll own them all, but in the meantime, what should I buy next? Or should I save all the time and money and buy a proper black rifle?

I realize I'll get different answers posting this in here, rather than in "Black rifles" :)

P.S.
Thanks to everyone active in this forum for inadvertently convincing me to buy my first SKS.

I dunno about for u but for me an svt 40 was next on the list. Now that u got the bug ull end up with moisons and czs and enfields mausers so on and so on. Its an addiction with no curef:P:2:

Caught the bug eh? Well you could pay thousands of dollars and get the shot, treatment, therapy, and medical supplies. OR, you could buy a decent size arsenal of awesome Red rifles and surplus ammo!

I suggest a CZ 858 next.

I too also considered saving and getting 2-3 grand black rifle, but was put off by reliability issue with the one I was looking at, and if I am paying that kind of money I expect it to be good to go out of the box. Instead I took about that same amount of money I accumulated over the past year, and have made my way up to 10 firearms for that price, and made lots of awesome memories taking friends out shooting.

If you have the money, sure get 1 expensive gun. Its not quality or quantity when it comes to red rifles. You can have both!

Russian firearms have a certain appeal to them. Even though they were not made for presentation, but a severely practical purpose, some of them are beautiful. Firstly, the SKS is a must have for all shooters. Cheap rounds with iron sights is where people learn to shoot. Other Russian firearms such as the 91/30 Mosin, M44, and SVT40 shoot the same bullet. Surplus ammo is at a good price and availability for both x54r and x39 rounds. Mosins that you can go hunting with are 100 bucks each. How can you lose?

I own an SKS and a Vz 58. They're so many guns out there that I want but not enough money to buy them all. This makes it hard to pick your next firearm because you have to decide over 5, 10, or even 50 other guns that are on your wish list. I want a Norinco M14 but I also want a SVT 40 or a Mosin Nagant. Out of the three firearms, I think which one is more likely to become rare sooner? The SVT-40.

My next firearm will actually be a handgun since I don't have one. I'm thinking about a Ruger SR9 or a Tokerav TT-33. The TT-33 sure is ugly, but if you put your thumb over the back of it, it looks just like a 1911. Plus its cheap something like $200. That Ruger SR9 sure is sweet though and less than $500! Oh man way off topic!

Vz58 or, if you prefer unrestricted, Cz858. For what you get, I think these are one of the best deals on the Canadian market, especially if you can find a good used one :)

Every Canadian household should have at least one. And probably an SKS.

My next buy after my SKS I just picked up will be an 858 - the SKS was my primer back into 7.62x39 cheap ammo. However, I love my AR - everyone should have one, if only they were non-res!

I've got both. The TT is fun, but if you want to enjoy your handgun and maybe develop a taste for more, go with the SR9 for sure.

Welcome to the SKS club.........don't worry you will buy more before to long, I am seriously looking at an 858 in my future now too.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I'm leaning toward a Mosin Nagant, I don't have a bolt-action yet (.22LR doesn't count :) ) where do I find them for $100? Trade-ex has a nice ex-sniper one for $225 that caught my eye.

Are there any 7.62x39 bolt-actions?

Edit: Found one!

Get the mosin next, look at westrifle too. Tradeex and westrifle have great mosins. For $100. you can have a shooter grade mosin from Westrifle.Tradeex has the best buy , IMHO, for a Russian sks with a birch stock and 1000 rounds of ammo for $369. AND free delivery , Can't beat that. Or if you want a lam stock just add $20 bucks.

I was never a fan of the red rifles and did not even consider them when I was looking to buy, then the marstar deal came along and I figured I cant loose. Let me tell you I should have passed on that deal because now i love my red rilfe. I still have not shot it, but i think it is so ###y, and would have never even had picked one up if it was not for that deal.
My next rifle will be a shot gun since i dont have one, but if i were in the market for a rilfe i would get the 858.
