I love Enfields as much as anyone, but it's not an archaeological artifact. You can always strip the paint off later, and as long as you don't glass bead or polish it, it will still be as good as it was before you painted it.
Sad fact is though, that the paint just isn't going to hold for long. The only way you're going to get paint to stick is to parkerize it first and then paint on that. And if you're going to all that trouble, you might as well use black and then at least it will look like a factory job, at a glance.
But the finish looks very good on the barrel and if it was that good on the action, you probably should leave it as it is, whether you restock it or not.

But the bayo lugs are a perfect way to attach the "fake can".......just me or is this posted in the wrong place? Black and Green rifles?

You are on the right path my friend, however I think it would look much better if you paint the stock in orange,

This... This is not OK. Look, if you REALLY need to butcher a piece of history, find one who's already seen Bubba's files and paint. This one is perfectly restorable. Besides, if you want a cheap hunting rifle, there's so many better candidates for a similar price that it's just staggering. Don't do this, please.
m-134, it's your rifle, do with it however you see fit. Pitted, rusted and in rough shape, I agree, you did do it a favour.
I like what you've done. It's different. The way it was, in all likelyhood you would have left it sitting in the gun cabinate collecting dust and more rust. You will get more use from it done up this way. It's just iron.
