I love Enfields as much as anyone, but it's not an archaeological artifact. You can always strip the paint off later, and as long as you don't glass bead or polish it, it will still be as good as it was before you painted it.
Sad fact is though, that the paint just isn't going to hold for long. The only way you're going to get paint to stick is to parkerize it first and then paint on that. And if you're going to all that trouble, you might as well use black and then at least it will look like a factory job, at a glance.
But the finish looks very good on the barrel and if it was that good on the action, you probably should leave it as it is, whether you restock it or not.
