probably wrong forum but i only shoot milsurp .i use hoppes #9 with corrosive ammo works great no rinsing with water.where can i buy it in bulk form ie i gallon ,any ideas?

You can get it in 16 oz (473ml) / US pint bottles at most gun shops, it does come in a 1 gal size. That would most likely be a special order. Hoppes part number is p/n 9501 for the 1 gal size. The 16oz or 1 pint runs around $16 to $20 ea, there is 8 in a US gal, you can figure the cost.

Yeah I'd love a gallon if it was bulk cost.

I use:

Hoppes 9
Gunzilla
Kroil/shooters choice combo
Gunslick foaming bore cleaner

They all seem to work fine really. I'd buy ANY in a bulk size.

Use the hot water first !!! The salts from corrosive ammo will re-surface and do a number on the bore. A tube in the chamber hooked to the hot water and run for a few moments will do wonders and the clean with Hoppes. The government made them take the nitro benzene out of Hoppes #9 a few years ago and the "new stuff" will not clean as well as the "old stuff".

.
If you are using that much for bore cleaning, you might consider making up a batch of "Ed's Red." It would only be about 1/10 th. the cost of Hoppes # 9 bore cleaner. Formulas are available on the Internet.

As WHEATY stated, the standard was two pints of boiling water through the bore to flush out the salts. It also heated up the barrel so that the barrel dried fast. Then clean with Hoppes, Accubore or a similar cleaner until patches come out clean. A good brand of light GUN OIL ( NOT 3 in 1 as it does not displace water) will provide protection after cleaning.

There used to be a funnel (flat on one side) with a tube attached that went into the chamber of the Lee Enfield for this purpose. You can easily make one by flattening one side of a metal funnel and adding a hose.

I think John Denner still has the funnels for $20.00 plus shipping. I just use the hot water tap or the water from the water heater and consider it the monthly flush of the tank...As Buffdog says, the heat dries the barrel and then a good cleaning with Hoppes AND then again a week later if you are using corrosive. Also, don't forget the breech face, mag, gas tube and flash hider if so equipped. Corrosive ammo residue will eat the snot out of anything..I've seen mags darned near eaten apart on the front lip.

didnt know about the new formula back to hot water i guess. i do two kettles with dish soap boiling never faile me yet.thought i was on to something oh well, thanks for the info glad i didnt wreck anything.

I use G96 on all my firearms. Even when I shoot surplus 7.62x25 a bore snake though with some more g96 on the tail end to leave the barrel coated works for me.
