Howa/Vanguard hi-cap magazines...

hmm 10 round you say? interesting... are there plans for a long action magazine I wonder?

I also wonder how far the 10 rounders stick out the bottom, and if the kit allows the interchange of 5 and 10 round magazines.

This makes me want to run to the nearest gun store and buy a Vangaurd. I see this outfit is out of Nevada. Any chance they are available in Canada? I would love to get some 10-rounder action going.

You can buy Weatherby conversion kits in Canada with smaller detachable magazines for both short and long action rifles - they work in Howa rifles, but I am not sure of they would work on rifles with a Hogue stock (they work in rifles with laminate and synthetic/plastic Howa stocks).
Does LSI ship to Canada?

I don't know. Maybe Clay from Prophet River can help.

That 10 round capacity in a .223 would sure come in handy when a pack of rabbid coyotes decides to charge! :D

Here are the instructions and some pictures:

Probably 5 rounds further than the 5 round mags

I have a detachable mag kit in my .270 weatherby Vanguard with a Hogue stock. Fits perfectly.

Look at the last link I posted - it has a picture of the 10 shot magazine in the rifle.

Ah I see that now, thanks 1899. It looks similar in profile to the ruger. In both cases it looks like the magazine extends below the rifle about the equivalent of the height of three trigger guards. On the Lee Enfield, by comparison, the magazine is flush with the bottom of the trigger guard. I'd prefer that, but oh well...

I don't think I'd buy into it for my 308 Vanguard sporter, but possible for a 223 synthetic coyote gun in the future.

I agree, would rather have a double stacked mag that ends flush with the trigger guard like an enfield.

That's interesting. I've long been impressed by the quality and performance of the Vanguard, especially for its price, but I wouldn't own one because I really like detachable magazines.

The vanguard comes with it's own detachable magazine now too, the DBM models. No aftermarket parts needed, unless you want the 10 rounder. It makes them a 1/4 pound lighter, too

Please advise the Canadian dealer are you purchasing the short action conversion kits from ?

Weatherby's website does not list a short action coversion kit .

Thanks

Now that you mention it, I just checked and relaized that I have only purchased LA kits (DBM and trigger guard assempby for Weatherby rifles - they will fit most Howa models/set-ups) at Wholesale Sports, Proline Shooters and Canadian Tire in Calgary. Cabela's did carry them online. I purchase one from the EE here (I think) quite awhile ago. They are pretty common in LA but I never noticed if they actually carried SA kits - my bad!!
