Ammo issue with GSG 1911

Hey there,

I recently encountered some issues with my GSG 1911 pistol. I kept having FTE with it; the case always kept getting stuck in the chamber with the extractor failing to extract it. It was like if the extractor claw was not strong enough to get it out...

I recently realized it was an ammo issue. I shoot Federal Champion HP 36gr ammunition which I get in 525 value pack. I first ordered a few boxes which I could shoot without issues. Then when they came on sale from a sponsor, I bought a case (10 boxes). Now I just realized they're different batches:

Batch 1HZ659 works perfectly. Batch 1HX720 I get FTE at every shot... I did a test with spent case: With the good batch, I can put the case back in the chamber and get it out with my nails with no efforts. With the 'bad' batch, the case is really hard to put back in the chamber and I have to use a flat screwdriver point to get it out by the rim. Both loaded ammo cycle with no issue in the pistol.

Would it be possible the case material is softer on the bad batch and it would expand the case too much when fired?

I don't have another 22lr to test the batch that doesn't work in my GSG but would this ammo potentially work in another 22lr pistol or rifle or it's just bad?

Anyone also has some ammo of batch 1HX720 and having some issues (or not)?

How many rounds you have so far since the last cleaning? Also, when loading the magazine, make sure the bullets are seated evenly. I found this concern when you are trying to load as fast as you can and some of the bullets portrudes out of the magazine as it comes out. I found round nosed like CCI Blazer, CCI Minimag and the CCI Standard Velocity to work well with least issues. Federal comes in next but sometimes tricky in loading into the magazine. Winchester has more FTF/FTE. I have not used Remington, and reviews are not good. If you already have at least 500-1000 rds, try a detailed slide cleaning. It could just be a gummed/sticky extractor. I clean mine every 500 rds.
 
At first I tought it was dirty; It's squeaky clean right now. Mags are fine and loaded properly. I really have isolated the issue to ammo. Pistol works 100% fine.

Yesterday I tried with the 2 boxes of different batch side by side. One works 100%, the 'bad' batch get FTEject every round.
 
I had exactly the same issue with mine - the shells would not eject from the chamber. I use only the 525 bulk packs and never had an issue with them. I changed the ejector on the gun and it now works perfectly - even with the same box of 525. The ejector I removed looked ok, but you could see a little rounding of the engagement edge - perhaps that was the problem. Anyway, that was my experience, maybe it was the ammo, but I think it was the ejector.
 
Do you mean the extractor? The claw that attach to the case rim when the round is loaded in the chamber..

Do you happen to have a batch number for the 22lr you had trouble with?
 
Yes, the extractor. I will check the batch number for the 22's when I get home - I still have the same box. I'll post it later.
 
Cci mini mags. Over 7k rounds.

Bore snake twice since I bought it, toothbrush with hoppes to scrub away carbon build up.
I literally treat this thing like I'm trying to kill it. It just wont die. Out of all combined usage, i have had no more than 10 failures of any sort, and three of those were primer strikes with no bang

Well well well... Looks like your batch is very close to mine. I think I might need to try a new extractor after all... I'll need to find a disassembly video on the internet; Changing an extractor on a SIG is easy but I have no clue on how to do it on a GSG 1911 :eek:

It's really easy.

1) Take the barrel out of the gun
2) Push the pin out (holding it in)
3) Take extractor our
4) Put new one back in
5) Push retention pin back in.

I tried a bunch of clips yesterday after the new extractor, and no issues. There is one complete dissassembly video on you tube for the GSG 1911.
 
It's actually deeper than I tought; I drove the pin on the slide out and got the breach block out. There are a couple of pins in there and I can finally get to the extractor.

1 question though: The breach block / firing pin area was filthy; once cleaned, should I leave that area dry so it attracts less grit or lubbed?
