Only guy I know of that shoots one of these for IPSC tells me it is a little fussy about being kept clean ? Apparently he has had a few issues during matches for this reason.

Spent alot of time at SHOTSHOW 2012 at the STI booth, looking everything over, concentrated on target 1911 45acp's, but had a nice talk with one of the employees, told me every gun is put together ,start to finish by one Smith/Armourer, no assembly lines! There commitment to customer service is top notch, product is in line with Black Hawk Custom, I would say the best line of 1911 pistols being built today for the price, great value for match grade guns!Dale Z!

GMK Armouries is now an official STI dealer, www.gmkarms.com or 807-346-4088

I've been using the GP6 for several years, and it's K100 older brother before that.

I flat out love the gun. The rotary barrel system does some amazing things when it comes to transmitting the recoil forces. It feels like it just doesn't move. The trigger is simply awesome.

The only two areas I wish were better are the feel of the safety lever, and the double action trigger pull.

The safety is positive in either position, but us die hard 1911 guys like to ride the safety, and the GP6 safety is not shaped for this.

The double action trigger pull is better in my opinion than the Beretta or Sig, but not as nice as the SP01 Shadow which is it's main competitor.

As for needing to be kept clean, ammo and lubrication method may be a factor. I shoot plated or jacketed bullet only, and use VV N320 powder. I do not oil the gun at all. Instead, I use a drop of grease on the barrels cam path, on easy frame rail, and a smear on the barrel hood.

I've never had a jam. I can keep the gun running during extended practice or at a match with just a quick safety table wipe. If it is getting sluggish in cycling, it may benefit from a quick wipe of the frame insert.

My single biggest grievance about the gun is the near total lack of available spare parts for preventative maintainance. Sean at Freedom Ventures will bend the laws of physics to make sure you have what you need if the gun breaks. What he can't do is cajole STI into making spare recoil springs, extractors, and magazine parts available for your range bag "possibles" box.

That being said, I have yet to break anything on the gun, aside from magazine base pads.
