Glock 22lr conversion or CZ Kadet pistol???

Hello,

How many of you guys use the Advantage Arms 22 conversion kit on their G17's? Are they pretty reliable and fun to shoot? How would going the G17 conversion route compare to, say, a separate CZ Kadet pistol (not conversion)? Are they worth the price difference? Or, is a 22 a 22 a 22.....

Two totally different types of pistols. If you want to train with one type only, get the AA kit. Variety is the spice of life they say.

Yeah, that's what I keep telling the wife :D ..... I do shoot both Glock and CZ in 9mm on a very regular basis, so I totally get where you're coming from. I was was more curious as to how well the AA kit or CZ Kadet functions in terms of the amount of FTF's, FTE's, feeding issues ..... Is the AA or CZ up there in tems of reliability with Mark III, 22/45 or Buckmark's (which I've all had and shot).....

Does the Advantage Arms kit lock open on empty? I know the SIG .22 kits / pistols don't.

CZ Kadet on the other hand, both kit and pistol, lock up. Steel mags, slides, etc, and as stated previously, wonderful to shoot. SIG kits, less wonderful. Never had the AA kit.

Kadet kit is highly recommended, and the pistol even more so. It makes a huge difference to me when I shoot 9mm, to switch to 22 briefly, and it's great to have a second pistol to pick up and use without missing a beat. If you go with AA, I'd recommend a second frame and build the whole pistol. Glock "lowers" turn up cheap on the EE from time to time.

Thanks, you confirmed much of what I was thinking. I didn't want a CZ conversion kit. Just wanted a Kadet pistol. As for the AA, was hopeing to pick up a lesser priced 17 to use as the lower with the kit. Was also wondering if the AA locks back on empty.....

Yes it locks back on empty.
 
The AA kit will lock the slide back on an empty mag. I experience on average 1 failure for the slide to return back into full battery every 40 or 50 rounds with my AA kit...resulting in a light strike. No feeding issues at all with the better ammo like CCI mini mags, Rem Golden Bullet, or Rem Target ammo. The bulk Federal or Winchester ammo will fail to cycle probably 50% of the time....AA even tells you to avoid that ammo. Overall I'm pretty happy with the kit and it is extremely fun to shoot but I still would like a dedicated 22 pistol. I too am looking hard at the Kadet or a Kimber in 22.

I had a SIG P229 Classic 22 that was pretty nice to shoot. The slide didn't lock back on the last round, but supposedly there is a work around for it. I would imagine the P226 is the same. SIG makes a nice pistol.
 
I have both and I don't think you will be dissapointed with either one. On both I have had maybe 2 or 3 failures and for rimfire I think that is great.


I bought the Kadet for my wife to shoot, she loves the gun but it is a bit too heavy for her and she just shoots my glock with the AA kit now. The kadet makes it very easy to be accurate too. I have used only the federal bulk pack with this and after almost 500 rounds I have only a couple failures and I think they were due the the ammo and not the gun. You could save a lot of money shooting the kadet with the federal.

The AA kit has probably about 1000 rounds now and I only use the remington golden bullet and cci mini mags. Again I have had just a few failures with this.

Hey Toto.... I ran about 350 mixed rounds of CCI mini mags and Rem Golden Bullets through my AA kit yesterday and only had 1 failure for the slide to completely go back into battery resulting in a light strike....no feeding or ejecting issues at all. My kit appears to be getting better the more I shoot it....I have about 600 through it already. This "break-in" thing must be true..:). Anyway, I'm liking this 22 pistol thing more and more lately. Very fun, easy, and accurate to shoot....everyone should own one. I was a hair away from buying a Kadet this morning but instead ordered one of those Sig 1911-22's in FDE from Questar. I know I over paid compared to similar GSG models but my boy was insistent that we get the FDE one with US rosewood grips. He's only 11 and is a 1911 fan already...:cool:.

Hey armorman,

Sounds like a solid kit. The more I hear about both, the AA and Kadet, the more comfortable I'm feeling about getting both. I also saw those Sig's at Questar. They look great. Love the colors. For the extra $100.00 or so you may have ''over paid''..... cool factor..... 11 year old..... range time. Sounds like money well spent! I'm sure he'll really enjoy it.

I have the aa and a kadet conversion. Both are great and shoot like a house on fire.
Aa+is that all operations are the same as 9mm, neg is that it is more ammo sensitive than the kadet
Kadet+ is that it eats up ALL ammo, neg is that due to design the slide has a top rail over it so handling the slide is different than 9mm

I have had a Kadet kit for a while now and do love it. Reliable, fantastic piece, but I too am considering glock .22 conversion. Anyone know if there is any available for the G19's with "canada legal" bbls?????
