Anyone put a Dlask 12.5" barrel or a 12" McGowen from Mystic Precision?

How does it shoot?

How does it look?

I've got a birthday coming up and the wife asked what I wanted. After the DYI trigger to 1lb 4oz. I'm thinking about a short tack driver.

I have an 11.5" Dlask and I can get about 5/8ths groups at 50 yards with some cheap bulk ammo (win target) I haven't tweaked the gun too much yet, in fact thats with the barrel band on. When it warms up and I really start playing I'm sure I will be well under moa. In fact I think that barrel will shoot as well as my gm 18" .920. And thats saying something, its a real tack driver.

I have the 12.5" dlask overall im satisfied. I have mine mounted in a tapco stock and can get 1/2" groups from a bipod with 12x scope using federal bulk 500 packs.
IMO this is pretty good considering the barrel is not free floated and if you have ever chronied this ammo you would be shocked with numbers below 700fps every now and then. Im sure the groups could tighten up if i changed stocks etc.
Im sure you will be happy with yours.
As for looks here you go.

Hi everyone I have a quick question about those great looking custom 10/22 does the short 12"barrel make it a prohibited firearm I thought the length had to be 18"or more?

No they are not prohib. As long as the overal length is more than 660mm and you are using a factory built barrel not a sawed off you have a non restricted firearm. This applies to rimfires.

I'm planing to modify my 10/22 with a 12 inch barrel and a tapco t6 stock. Can some one tell me what is the distance between the end of the receiver to the front portion of the handguard. Are the rails on the ruger and the stock at the same level? could be fun to fit some cheap flip up sight on this.

My Dlask has a 12.5" Dlask barrel with the Levang comp on it. I am very happy with it. As for accuracy, it shoots minute of "A" zone with ease. I don't shoot groups with it because if you want tight "benchrest" groups I figure that you're not using a 12.5"!! I put a Dlask 16.5" barrel on a friends gun and it shoots between 1/2" and 3/4" @ 50 yards with discount ammo (more than one brand). He's more than a little happy with his also.

Here is a link to a post I made shortly after my own 12.5" Dlask barrel build.

I was very happy with the results, but every barrel is different so take it how you will. The convenience (and coolness) of a short barrel is worth losing a few fps but in my own experience I actually got higher velocities with the shorter barrel. The 10/22 in that post was sold on the EE last month, a great little carbine. I kinda miss it but plan to do another build right away, just need to decide on whether to do another 12.5" barrel or an 8.5" barrel.

The good folks at Ballistics By The Inch now have data for the .22 LR so check their results out.

The cheap Winchester ammo I use only loses 59 fps going from an 18" barrel to an 8" barrel, so it makes it really tempting to order a 8.5" barrel from Dlask.

Test after test proves that barrel length is not a factor in inherent accuracy... when considering barrels between 6" and 26"... there are other factors that are more important, ie. balance, handling, recovery, weight, looks etc... overall quality (chamber, bore, crown) and receiver/stock stock fit is more essential to accuracy... our Dlask 12.5" barrels perform very well indeed;

Ten shot group at the bull... three shot group at the eyeball!

If I can take a beer bottle off a fence at 50 yards, that's accurate enough for me. If you want a total tack driver, buy an Anschutz. If you want a fun, short, semi, buy a 10/22 with a little bitty barrel.

I hope that your picking up all that glass...

I will. I'll make a mess of a small corner of my 100+ country acres I live on... It's also used as a building material and farm dump.

I'm not touchy, it was just an unnecessary comment. No harm, no foul.

Cheers
