Where ya headed next? For real?

Northern Ontario tentatively for Black Bear late this coming August.

Just put my name down for a .375 H&H.

Also I am moving for school and will have the Chance to Hunt Deer on Wolfe Island,Ontario.

Same thing as the last few years for me... Turkey at my home camp in SW Ontario and black bear in the north come September... Jealous of your turkey hunt Brad... I too would like to do the slam

I've got three in the wind but no money down yet, so they don't count. I have pretty much decided on Bongo and Lord Derby in CAR for Apr 2014, but they are still at the shows and won't be home til next week to accept deposit. I'll keep ya posted.

Dogleg, with your permission I'd like to ask everyone what firearms, optics and calibers are planned with these booked hunts?

'course the guns are a major part, and guys like me agonize over decisions that shouldn't awful hard.

I'm takeing a Cooper in 30-06 for the culling, partly because hundreds of rounds take a heat/recoil toll and partly because there's a limit to ammo that can be flown and local resupplying in necessary. I'm also takeing a 13 pound 30" barrelled Bat actioned .338 Edge monstrosity for shooting about as far as I can shoot. Its scoped with a Mark 4 8.5-25, the Cooper with a VX3 3.5-10 with CDS. I'll take a spare scope for the Cooper, probably a 3.5-10 x 40 with B&C.

The B.C. hunt will likely see a Weatherby accumark that I rebarrelled with a #2 Gaillard in .300 Win. Most of the rifles I own would be suitable, but its reasonably weatherproof and has been a "lucky rifle". It's got a 3.5-10 x 50 VX 3L with illuminated B&C, not my normal choice but it was set up for night hunting in SA and an as yet unbooked hunt for leopard. Come to think of it, that scope might go to OZ as the spare.

Yayyyy!... Someone's jeakous of my hunt for a change...lol

It's not that expensive... And the family is headed to disney for two weeks... I just get to spend week 2 at the ranch... Lol

Gonna sneak a Gator or two in on that, Superbrad? You really should since you're already there.

No... I have a really good friend of mine who lives in georgia... He is looking to get tags next year and, if he does, yours truly will be his first mate... Would make for a good holiday... Gator is fantastic eating...

aren't those 2 different hunts? kinda like dall's sheep and pronghorn for lack of a better analogy.

Negative, the company I spoke with have both in the same region. They hunt what is primarily savanna but have great bongo in the river valleys in the area. They run about 80% on bongo and 100% on Lord Derby. Bongo is hunted from machans at first and last light. A hunt even an old fat man can do, none of that jungle busting for me I am definately too old for that sh!t.
The Lord's are walked up on tracks in the savanna and I can still do that as well.
This is my only hope of harvesting a bongo, I fear.

Sounds like a perfect exercise for my 375 H+H 270 TSX. Or maybe the 340 Wby in Mod 70 Super Grade 250 Accubond or Part. hhhhhmmmmmmm !!!!!!!!!!!!

Mid March. Pasture south of the yard for richardson ground squirrel :D planned Black bear hunt for late May. But work may interfere with that, yet again

Okay guys I did it, booked Bongo and Lord derby in CAR for 21 days April 2014. Deposit goes out tomorrow!!!

I'm pretty sure it will be with my Rem 700 semi-custom .375 H+H using 270 gn TSX and a Zeiss 1.5-6 Diavari. These are big animals but the 375 hits like a sledgehammer.

Also on the list is yellow backed duiker, blue duiker, harnessed bushbuck, Dammaras dik dik, red flanked duiker, red savanna buffalo, bush pig and giant forest hog and a bunch of other sh!t I've already got. Forest sitatunga is still in the air right now, not sure if they will get permits for 2014 or not.

Let me tell ya though guys, CAR is EXPENSIVE !!!

If you want to check ot these critters and the operation go to;

We will have to see what the draws bring... I'm Super A for mule deer and elk, and I'm considering going in for both. If I have bad luck, I'm going to buy an archery mule deer tag and dissappear into the bush with only my bow and backpack for a week in September.
