Ouch, my jaw just hit the table. Nice piece.

Look at that last picture. Look how carelessly they are carrying around those rifles. Don't they know that it will hurt the rifles collector value. :D
Hey, third guy from right has a mosin sniper. I also see an MP41 and 2 scoped mausers. Sniper squad perhaps?

Good post. Coyote Ugly, do you know more about the story behind the picture?

Looks like Kubschütz was a small town located east of Dresden on a rail line very close to where the border of Germany, Poland and Czech Replublic meet. The area city of Liegnitz (Legnica) Poland just 50 miles to the east of this area was captured by the Russians on 10 Feb, 1945

Location of photo: Bautzen in Saxony, Germany; April 25, 1945.

Bautzen is in Saxony and just a few kilometers to the southeast is Kubshutz so the location of the photo seems correct.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Bautzen_(1945)

According to the article it was the last German victory of the war. They held out until the end with the recapture of Bautzen.

Not an MP41, actually a French MAS 38 Submachinegun. ;)

G43 snipers are fun!

I am thinking of getting one of those Meopta repros.. afraid of wrecking my original ZF4.. :yingyang:

It is actually an Italian Beretta MP38/42 in 9mm para, the guy on the left in this picture is a paratrooper, they regulary issued those Beretta MP's to them.

The MAS would have the wrong caliber (7.65)

Did anyone notice Mosin Sniper third guy from the right.

There are two Polish Movies made in the late 60s about fighting in this*region Budzishyn

No sub-titles, not late 60s but 1955.
Movie is called "hour of hope" this is the link

http://youtu.be/eqcg4A5lnYI

It is interesting region, one of the few places where "werwolf" actually was operating with some success. Lots of stories about hidden German treasures

man, i make good coin but based on my late entry point into the milsurp game due to my age, i can only dream of rifles like this. im so jealous of you guys.

Do you still shoot it?

I confirm your statement on the C7 jacking same goes for holding it like Rambo lol. But overall this rifle would be a dream to own a center piece to any collection.

You might want to look at it again.... It is actually very hard to tell whether or not it is an MP38/42 or a MAS 38. Both are very similar. Plus the blurry photograph and the way in which the FJ is carrying it is hard to tell what exactly it is. My first inclination was towards the Italian MP, but looking at the stock, it's more like the French MP... Hard to tell...

At that point in the war those guys were using everything.

One of the common rifle issued to the Volkssturm were Italian Carcanos!

PS The above photo, some info:

German snipers at Kubschütz (Kubshyutse) near the German town of Bautzen. April 25, 1945. German snipers of the 1st Paratroop Panzer Division "Hermann Göring" (Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1. Hermann Göring).

On April 21, 1945 the Wehrmacht made its last counter-attack, which occurred in the left flank of the advancing units of the 1st Ukrainian Front. After several days of heavy fighting, the last German offensive was on halted April 26, 1945, but the fighting in the area continued until the end of April.

They are nice shooters.
Better to shoot a mismatched one or a Vopo though. In case of any breakage.
Or use a shooters kit (various sizes of changable restrictive plugs in the gas piston) or just plug the gas system with a threaded bolt to regulate or turn off the gas system.

There was an experimental sniper G/K43 that had a switch to either shut off the gas and go single shot (repeater by cocking by hand each time, no cycling, quieter, more accurate?) or to stay in semi auto with the gas.

Kar 43 is a nice rifle to shoot, but it's rough on your brass due to that no-adjustment gas system. Sure works, though.

I had one, many years ago, a 1945 rifle, no scope, of course. It, along with a CLLE, GL SMLE, '08/'15 Maxim and a bunch of others, was stolen. No point even reporting it; it was 2 cops who did it. "There is no organised crime in Vancouver; the police have it completely under their control." (Mayor Tom "Terrific" Campbell, shortly before the Hogue massacre)

But they are a very nice rifle. Recoil is not much of a factor, accuracy is sufficient and reliability of operation just about absolute. Ran 135 rounds of 8x57 through mine, loaded with 35 grains of 4831 and a 165 CAST bullet ( a ridiculously-underpowered loading), got exactly ONE bobble, a FTF; rest all worked just fine.

For the period, a really excellent rifle. I don't at all blame the Czechs for keeping it (and the ME-262) in production.
