Neat thread, great pics. The amazing thing about these is that they're not like dinosaurs, i.e. extinct for a bazillion years. These things were running around practically yesterday.

That is what I was thinking too. Not only that, but some of the animals that are alive today shared the forrest with these animals!
 
Now here's the real question...

Is a 500NE enough for Giant Short Faced Bear defence? :p

The Giant Shortfaced Bear was almost identicle to our modern coastal grizzly in it's largest form. The 375 is considered excellent medicine for these boys so I think a 500NE might be considered adequate, or overkill !!! Not many shoot the 500 NE well enough to consider it as a good defensive firearm.

They were big! But I am sure a .375 would do fine...
