I recently purchased an SKS and like many people I had a difficult to remove firing pin. No amount of hammering was budging the retaining pin. The other day I was in my garage looking for something and came across my chain breaker and had one of those A Ha! moments. A chain breaker is basically a hand press similar to a c-clamp in shape with an assortment of small pins on the front end to push and a hollowed out back end to allow pins to be pushed through it. It's designed to push the rivet links through and out of motorcycle chains.
I just used it to remove the FP retaining pin in 10 seconds with no sweat, no bent punches etc. It works like a charm. That retaining pin had 50 years of carbon build-up on it and that was probably not helping the removal.
BTW! even thoug I had sprayed the bolt and exposed firing pin in solvent last week, once the FP was out, I saw that it was still covered in cosmo. I've read that a lot of guys have given up and just sprayed it like I did. If you've done that, please go back and try again and make sure you get all that cosmo out.
