foaming bore cleaner

I've had good results from Wipeout for a decade or so. - dan

Me 2.

Some guys don't seem to care for it, but to me a cleaning agent that requires nothing more than a few seconds to apply at night, and a minute or so to patch out in the morning, that leaves the bore clean and protected, and actually limits the number of times a cleaning rod must pass through it, is a good thing.

This may be blasphemy, but I prefer Wipeout to Hoppes.

10 minutes in a room with Hoppes and inadequate ventilation, and I end up having long conversations with Jim Morrison. Wipeout doesn't smell like much of anything, does a very thorough job, and you get plenty of positive reinforcement when that grape KoolAid comes oozing out the muzzle.

Yep, long term exposure to Hoppes fumes helps me see dead relatives, but a little behind the ears ensures that you marry the right girl too ...

Birchwood Casey's foaming bore cleaning isn't worth buying in my opinion. I've even soaked overnight a carbon encrusted breach plug in it,and it did little. I've never seen any signs of it removing copper.

I use a lot of wipeout, when I can find it. It works great. There's some other stuff I use, too - not sure what brand it is; comes in a blue can at wholesale sports. Works about the same as wipeout, but be careful - if left on, it will take out bluing!

Neither are my choice for heavily fouled barrels, though - for serious cases, it's faster to use something like shooter's choice or another super-strength copper solvent. JB paste is also a really good choice for very fast removal of serious fouling, when everything else fails.

Wipeout isn't bad to use every once in a while. There are times when you're cleaning with Hoppe's and no matter how many passes, you can't get a clean patch. There are times when you clean with Wipeout and you still get crud out using Hoppe's

I was shooting cast bullets in an Enfield with 2400 and I just could not get it clean. I'm talking probably 200 patches down the barrel using a brush, hoppes, and a plastic jag. I just oiled the gun and put it away, but when I picked up some Wipeout it only took 2 sessions before the patches were squeaking down the barrel and coming out white.

I do find that Wipeout isn't the end all, there are guns that I can get cleaner with just Hoppe's. There have been times where I've put a clean brush down the barrel using Hoppe's and picked up stuff that Wipeout didn't catch, even though the patches were coming out clean.

A lot of people may get excited over their patches being dirty, but it's really the lead and copper fouling one needs to be concerned with.

^ well said; it's always good to have multiple weapons in your arsenal, because sometimes there's occasion to use them. The 'main players' in my kit are Wipeout, M-pro 7, Shooters Choice, Hoppes, and JB. Probably a few others kicking around in there somewhere too, but those are the main ones. And overall, I'd have to say that Wipeout is the MVP.

Wipeout works great, and I use it for an overnighter sometimes.
However, heavy copper fouling gets the KG12 treatment.
Superior to Barnes CR 10 and Sweet's 7.62, and will not harm Barrel steel.
I have pretty well abandoned Hoppes, as much as I like the aroma!
I like Butches Bore Shine for general cleaning.
Eagleye.
