Hornady .348 Flex Tip

Why I use Barnes 250's ;) Still would be interested to see how these work but at the price i see maybe not!

My Grandfather gave me his Model 71 .348 a few years before his passing along with 7 boxes of ammo. 5 of them are Win. 200 grain factory silvertip and the other two are Remington 200 gr soft nose. Along with that he sent a couple boxes of once fired brass and a box of Hornady 200 grain soft nose bullets should I wish to reload the brass. Neither he nor I ever loaded for the gun though I have saved the brass I have shot while sighting in. To date I have had the rifle 10 years and have hunted with the gun once and killed a whitetail buck with it. Seemed to work fine with the 200 grain silvertips I shot out of it. I took the deer down at a ranged distance of 338 yards. I see you guy's talking about 250 grain and I can remember my Grandfather saying he could get bullets back in the day when he purchased the rifle in the late 50's in 150, 200 and 250 grain. He said he wished they had made 225's. He felt they would have been a real good bullet for that calibre. I was shocked that the 200 grain I used on the deer I shot went clean through it at the distance I took the deer at but what shocked me more was the exit wound was a snug fit for my thumb? I was expecting a little more of an exit wound I guess but the deer went down after about running 20-25 yards. Not much blood leaked out the exit wound but the insides were full of blood, I think I could have filled a 1 gallon pail a couple times.
So how do you find the 250's? Do you think there is an advantage to the heavier bullet? I am going to load what I have at home for now but if I were to load for moose would the 250 be a better option? What kind of ballistics do you get from a 250 loading?

Interesting but I couldn't get the address to work but I did see them on a check of their website. They look interesting and ;)I'll have to put them on my next shopping list. :redface:I must admit though, I'm still a little skeptical on using a pointed bullet of any sort in a tubular mag. I have a good supply of their 200gr FP interlock. They seem to work and not much trouble to locate them.

I also have access to a couple of cast bullets to 'play' with, one 230gr GC and the other 262gr GC. I was also lucky enough to pick up some old Winchester 200gr Silvertips from a member on site:D.

Senior, last but not least, I also picked up some Barnes originals in both 220gr and 250gr.
