My rem 870 express super mag 3, 1/2'' chamber is jamming on almost 1 in 3 rounds with the cheapo winchester walmart rounds. I used to always use them with no problem; then I switched to federal for awhile, and now that I switched back my gun hates winchester.

Basically the shell is getting jammed in the chamber and will not eject out when pulling back on the pump action.

I tried a mild polishing with some steel wool wrapped around a cleaning brush on a cleaning rod to no avail - I have seen some people online go at it with a dremel brush is this a good idea? Does anyone have any other possible causes?

Thanks.

I have the same shotty as you. Had the same problem too.

Buy some 0000 bronze (not steel) wool and soak it in gun oil. Wrap same on a wooden dowel and chuck in your hand held electric drill. Polish chamber at a slow even speed; the object is to polish, not remove metal.

Sounds promising; I was in a rush before I went to the range this last time and I just used whatever my wife had under the sink (I am embarrased to say it was an SOS steel wool pad). Perhaps the drill idea with 0000 wool will do the trick.

Just don't go too crazy with the polishing. Many of the 3 1/2" mags will not cycle crap shells. I know it helps the newer express 3" receivers but the jury is still out on what it does to improve a 3 1/2" 870 receiver.

Never really understand why someone needs to polish a gunt to get it to work. I would tie it to a nice rock and throw it in the deepest lake u find. Remington sucks. Marlin 30 30 are crap because of our friends at Remington.QUOTE=platnumbob;6757710]My rem 870 express super mag 3, 1/2'' chamber is jamming on almost 1 in 3 rounds with the cheapo winchester walmart rounds. Easy now pbonura....it probably went through in excess of 2000 rounds before having a single problem - and even still its only with one kind of ammo. It otherwise feeds flawlessly. Not bad for a relitivly cheap shotty.

I will see if the polishing works next time I go out.

Switch shells there is nothing wrong with your gun. Winchester promotional ammo is junk. You probably got a bad box. When the shell goes off the steel, not brass expands to much. Try taking a spent shell and see if you can get it back in the chamber. Trust me you won't be able to. Switch to a different brand and your back up and running. You can't make a good gun shoot bad shells.
