M-14 Winter grease

I use Super Lube clear synthetic, year round. In winter I'm test firing rifles in temps from +5C to -30C and no issues. I first started using it years ago in my fishing reels, both winter steelhead and runnin charters on the west coast , both extreme conditions and that grease excelled in icy and corrosion rich environments. Started using it on firearms som 10 years ago and it's still number one for me ;)
Lot's of greases do the job well and a person doesn't have to be too fussy on what brand is the "best lube" . My wife says the cinnamon flavoured body lube is the best.... But that's for a different weapon altogether :D

This is probably a dumb question, but where are you applying this grease? I just got my new 305 Shorty, cleaned her up and applied G96 to a few parts. Are there any parts that actually need grease?

Yes these action types need grease. I believe there have been alot of threads on lubrication, and I have seen some youtube M1A greaser's, but exact point's I will not lead you astray. I know your op rod guide in receiver, the bolt roller, the roller channel in op rod, the locking lugs, the lug channel cuts inside receiver, in back where bolt stops etc. There are more I can't remember. Don't get grease in firing pin channel or use inappropriate grease like I did. I believe we need oil on op rod/op rod guide, but I may be wrong on that too!

Again thanks to everyone for suggestions on winter grease or all year round for that matter. Now just what to actually buy so many great sounding products, that have been field tested by members.:)

I get my superlube in grease gun tubes or tubs, from lordco. It is an off the shelf item as far as I know so you shouldn't have to special order

I use mobil 1 XHP 462 Moly grease, that I get from an Esso bulk sales point. I haven't been out in cold enough weather with my firearms to see how it behaves, but on the machines it still flows nicely at -10.

I have had the same can of Lubriplate for years. Garands and M1A's ran just fine at -40 probably hard to get these days though.

Frequentlty on Ebay they sell the same Lubriplate white grease the US Army specs for the M14. One small can should last you for years. In the search bar type M1A.

Winter shooting update!!!:) Gremlin found and terminated, or at least I believe.........

Cleaned my rifle fully, however didn't pick up any new grease yet, just made sure there wasn't too much of the moly, and the firing pin was unimpeded.

Took my son out today, it was -8 here, with windchill at around -18.

Anyhow I fired around 20 rounds, I started a zero for winchester sp's for coyote, if I take the M-14 for a walk, anyhow everything went good till I let my son fire it for the first time.

This was stripper full of S&B fmj, so Bang,............stoppage.

He was going to clear it, I yelled wait,... don't touch anything let me see it. I can't believe this. Second new guy and whammo a stoppage again.

The Empty was laying directly over partially chambered round as if it was extracted but not thrown and of course blocking the bolt closure.

After a frigid CSI, I believe the problem is solved,........

Wendell,.....in his post,.... asked if the guy was riding the op rod. Well it turns out my son is a lefty, as was the first guy I let fire it, and watching him shoulder it, his right thumb is riding the op rod hard!!! When I made him keep his thumb of the oprod she ate up the remamining box.

Guess that's why she put all my empties in a nice 2 foot square pile and stops when someone rides the op rod.:p

When I get to Cambodian Tire, I will look for the Lubriplate first and then try superlube etc, and on from the list from all the post's. Thank's guys for taking the time to share your experience.:)

PS. After seeing those Winchester 150PSP groups @ 100meters, I think I need to get a cheap scope mount just to check out the rifles out of box potential. I believe it may be very good!

Like a real Canadian, I lube my M305 with Bacon Grease.

Seriously though, I just use the generic shtuff from Canadian Tire. Seems to be getting the job done adequately.

Oh, got the Lubriplate from Brownells. It is in a quart sized paint can, didn't realize it would be so much. I think I have enough for the next 300 years!

Is there anything else I can use Lubriplate for? I have lots and lots of it.

The guys I work with are crazy for this stuff.
Nano Ceramic Mold Grease.
When nothing else works this is what they use.
No offensive odour and it's food safe.
