Does anyone know of a machinist or smith that can turn down my bolt knob on my Savage MKII? I posted a thread in the the smithing section, but have had 0 replies. I am looking for someone to turn my handle and thread it. I know its not that hard, but I currently don't have any of the tools to do the job myself. Someone in SK would be preferable, but I am willing to send it out elsewhere to have it done.

A dremel with a cut off wheel and grinder attachment, and a Die Handle and Die 5/16x24 ($30 from Napa) is all you need .. don't forget the loc tite.
You can order a new knob from here ... h ttp://www.boltknobsbybill.com/ He ships to Canada with no problems. I bought one for my Savage 93 and the installation took 15min and would probably cost you less then getting someone to do it and you get to keep the tools when your done

like I said, I currently don't have any of the tools to do the work myself. I also don't have a space to do the work either, as I don't have a garage or basement. I do however have a spare bedroom that will become my reloading/work room this summer, when funds allow.
I was also thinking about having a machinist make a bolt knob for me to some specs I have drawn up. However, Bill does make some nice ones, but I have something really specific in mind, and he hasn't emailed me back yet.

The bolt work was done by Dlask Arms... grind/thread/mount... Dlask also has come out with their own bolt knobs and they are very nice;

This is the one I got from Bills ... did the work myself. Borrowed the dremel from a friend and went to NAPA and bought the Handle and Die, and it did only cost me about $30 for both.

Hoytcanon - I have seen some of your rifles in another thread, and I must say I like what you have done with all of them.
I think I may just have to head to an uncle's house to use his lathe and see if I can conjure up some lathe skills from back in high school to make a knob of my own. Maybe I'll buy a little extra material just in case. Will likely use the dremmel method to thread the handle, since the time, materials, and tools don't present themselves to make a jig for the lathe. I would, however, ultimately like the handle turned on the lathe, simply because I like things to be done the best way possible. As mentioned before if anyone knows someone with the tools and skills, feel free to pass along their info.

Saskatoon Gun Shoppe won't do it. I talked to the lady there about a couple weeks ago and she said they don't do any of that kind of thing anymore since they stay quite busy doing typical repairs.
I will try out Saskatoon Gun Works though.
I was honestly quite surprised as well. But its understandable that if they just want to stick to repairs and general sales rather than special requests and specific modifications. They do great work and have had every part I have wanted in the past so I wish no ill-thoughts upon them.
So not many people have a jig made up specifically for this bolt hey? damn.
