Take a look at winchesters website, look at the the 333 pack of .22 lr lubaloy plated. Under the "suggested use" it says varmint, small game, plinking, target and THIN SKINNED BIG GAME. Wow, you would think a big company like Winchester could get it right. What if someone who doesnt know better saw that and tried to shoot a deer?

They likely couldn't read anyways,

or else they would have seen in the hunting regs that it's illegal.:D

Thin skinned big game to USA are squirrels, possums and Raccoons.

Thin skinned BIG game. Their wording. Big squirrels?

"Ah, the black bear. I took him down with a winchester .22, range -3 feet. I had to insert the rifle rectally three feet before I fired. On the upside, no hole for the taxidermist to patch. I stalked him for three days until he went to sleep.True story."

even though it illegal nowadays, one of my grandfathers freinds use to hunt deer with a .22lr up till about 15 years ago when he finally got a high powerd rifle. my dad took his first deer down with a old winchester pump .22 back in the 70's, just he was a bad shot so it took 18 rounds. it is considerd a weak caliber for deer and stuff so now its just legal/used for small game here in canada:rolleyes:

 what!:(

Hundreds of thousands of beef cattle and hogs were shot with .22's when the time came to slaughter them. Also, an awful lot of moose were shot with .22's (most of them were snared at the time). For farm animals, they were head shots at close range, and for moose, it's all about bullet placement, and giving the animal time to die. A regular velocity .22 solid will penetrate quite far. far enough to kill most animals. Not saying it's ethical, but it is possible.

Actually when I was young my relative was well known for hunting deer with a .22. One shot, 1 deer. Several times. Witnessed by many. Never bragged about it. Just needed the meat for his family.

He was not alone. I have several uncles who did the same, especially during the Depression.

I witnessed several moose taken by FN hunters in the James Bay area, shot in the ear with a .22 while swimming, and they were almost always allowed to get close enough to shore to minimize the work after the shot...

It's been 5 minutes I'm still laughing

Now thats funny, I don't care who you are, how did you get the bear to hold still for all that and you either have a very long barrelled .22 or you got your hands dirty! ;0)
