bringing brass back from the USA

All reloading components are controlled goods, with the exception of shotgun hulls / wads (for some odd reason)

never have attempted this before...any limits or rules?
I am aware about ammo,...but brass not sure?
That's an interesting question.
The Form 6 is a temporary import permit to the US. You have to bring back whatever ammo you don't use...I wonder about the brass
My assumption is if your Form 6 lists 1,000 rounds of 9 mm and you come back with 400 rounds and 600 brass cases...you would be OK.

Did you bring 38 Super ammo down there with you...and you want to bring the brass back?
Also bear in mind that I'm just applying logic...which doesn't mean you can actually do it. It's a bit of a grey area

I have personally brough back about 50lbs of spent brass through the airport. In actual fact I was shooting down in Nevada at the time of the 2011 SHOT show and brough all that brass back in my hand luggage 'cos of the expense of the added baggage costs (and I'm a cheap ass)
They were really decent when it lit up like a Christmas tree in the scanner and I ended up with about 5 people checking every case incase it was 'live'. They treated it all in good humor and didn't mind.
The best part was I ended up on a smaller plane that didn't have too much carry on space so they allowed everyone to check their bags for free at the gate.....I had to give the girl a lift with the bag cos it was heavy as hell so I didn't even have to struggle with the thing
so go for it. Worst case if you end up with a nob at the gate who says you cant take it....you would have left in on the ground before so nothing lost eh

If you get caught with it on U.S soil by a "non nube" who knows the ITAR munitions list and policies...losing it it not the worst case scenario (assuming it's not spent brass from live ammo you imported with your Form 6)

you know what, I would say that I am probably the last person who would claim to know the ITAR regs when it comes to spent brass so I certaily wouldn't want to make out I know more than I do.
I guess all I was sharing was that in the midst of a busy time with plenty of weapons/contractor members/ammo/kit etc going through the airport during the SHOT SHOW there was a whole heap load of customs and border staff running round and not one of them seemed to mind a bit as far as any legalities were concerned. There was a few huffs when they saw how many cases there were.
But maybe I was lucky and they were busy....I guess I will take a little luck everyday of the week

I only ever deal with ITAR as it relates to IR/thermal arial mounted weapon sights and some if it's component and not at the more basic end but it can be a mine field for sure with a multitude of interpretations...
I am off down to play in the Nevada dirt again this end of March for 10 days so I will report back then perhaps what happens this time....or maybe you'll see the picture in the news paper ...that'll will save me the dime to call you all ha ha

Odds are, you'd be OK. If you were "caught" you could probably just leave it behind. The only problem is if you get an overzealous agent, and they decide to throw the book at you, then you could be in deep do-do.
Kind of like here in Canuckistan. Most LEO's won't go ballistic at trivial "violations" of the FA, but if you get a rectum, then you're screwed, regardless of intentions.

My father-in-law did a road trip to Alaska from Ontario this past summer. Traveled along the northern US states up through BC to Alaska. He picked up some Starline brass and other items in the US and never had a problem coming into Canada and going in and out of Alaska, while declaring everything including the brass
Funny thing is his truck is decaled out advertising his Firearms, Hunting and Trapping Courses he teaches. Not once did they want to look for firearms.
I gues it all comes down to who you get at the border.

I kinda think it's like having dealings with the cops....I can believe that cops like border patrol, for the vast majority of their time they have to deal with nob heads who give them attitude and grief, so when they come across folks like your father in law and those here on GN who are basically decent people trying to work by the rules they tend to be decent back.
I have been backwards and forwards through the border many times with the toys and I have only once had some issue and that was basically cos the NY border patrol guy was pissed that I could take my handguns and he couldn't own one even though he carried professionally
