Im Converting my brother in laws .308 in to a coyote gun with some 100gr hand loads. Unfortunatly he's on a budget and needs a New scope. I found the 6-24x50 NcStar for a fantastic price. Are these a decent scope and will they with hold the recoil of a .308??

I have used them on my .22, my CX4-storm and Norc AR. they worked fine as long as I didn't remove them, otherwise I would lose zero. The rep at the Shot show claims that once you get the gun zero, locktite the nut on the quick release and it should return to zero every time afterwards. Haven't tried it yet.

I have had one on my VTR 223 for 3 years now with no problems I found my field of view less than some of the more expencive scopes but so far for around $150.00 mine has taken many yotes I have also used the turrets to shoot out to 800yrds with no tracking problems.Mine is the MKIII

On low to medium recoiling rifles they should be good, high recoiling rifle will destroy it fast... JP.

I wouldn't rely on one for any serious hunting. Imagine sitting out there in the cold, calling and finally getting a chance at a good shot, and the scope causes you to miss. At a minimum, get something from Bushnell. Or for $200 you can get a Leupold VXI or $229 VXI with long range reticle, and have something you can rely upon and will last a lifetime.

NCstar is good for the following:

1. garbage filler
2. To throw at anything u get mad at
3. a comicly laugh at the range
4. a way to waste money
5. a reason to buy a better scope

For your budget go with a Vortex Crossfire. No one can touch their warranty if you ever need it and best bang for the buck as far as options or features go.

I said it before, I'll say it again : ncstar's lemons are the ones that work.

A 3-9x40 redfield will make up for any perceived need for massive amounts of magnification.

Don't have a timmeys a day for a week or two, save the change and get a redfield, vortex, bushnell.

You'd be MUCH further ahead scouring the EE for a deal on a bushnell or vortex or just buying a new bushnell Banner. I've had bushnell trophy's, 3200's and banners and aside from the weight of my wallet I can't notice a difference. The banner scopes for me always perform very well AND leave more money in my wallet. Run, don't walk away from NCstar, Fitco and Leapers. They aren't worth the cost to ship them. Inexpensive is good, cheap is bad.

If your going to go cheap, get the simplest model, a fixed 4x or something for $30 at your door. Recently bought one to screw around with and its surprisingly bright and clear(better than lower end bushnell). The Leupold mk4 ripoff's for $60 at your door seem to be 'ok' too. Don't go big magnification, 10X is more than enough for what your doing.
