Hi,

I was wondering which brand is considered the best upgrade. There's M14 Doctor and NEA in Canada. Marstar is discontinued.

Then in the US they have USGI, SAI, Sadlak...

What do you guys run and prefer? NEA is out of stock, so is the M14doc a better alternative or are the American ones better?

They all do what they're intended to do...
Use which ever one you can hold of for the best price. M14 docs are good, I believe the badger ordinance ones can be exported by brownells
 
Now, I've read that the National Match specs are what they build them towards. How do the flutes and flat flutes help if any at all?

Is M14doc's made to the same specs?
 
I believe someone on here (hungry maybe???) tested a bunch of these. All are pretty much made to the same spec and there was no acurracy or function advantages to running a flutted over a non-flutted.
 
Where I really like the Wolfe spring. Is with the tighter match chamber rifles as it is slightly overpower and ensures full return to battery.
There is no real reason to swap out the chinese spring but the US made ones are made to a higher quality standard in my opinion.
 
This op rod guide is one of those upgrades that reduce your groups immediately... one of those must-do jobs when I was competing with this platform! If you are using your M14 for a bear or zombie defense tool, then no worries here!

All of the brands do the job well. The M14Doctor unit is great for the Norc (smaller interior diameter) or chinese springs. The US imported (if you can ever get them) units are nice, but I dunno if they are worth the extra $$ involved. Right now I'm rocking the M14Doctor unit and it's working for me.

Now get out and shoot your M14!! :evil:

I guess from the feedback, the OP was referring to the Op Rod Sring Guide and not replacing an Op Rod Guide. I was confused reading it first. Are there Op Rod Guide repalcement, for tightness and trueness, other than just used ones off of Chinese or USGI barrels?
 
I am no longer involved with the guide rods but Gothmog's guide rod is oustanding and works equally well with chinese and US made springs. I think canam and sfrc are both carrying Gothmog's guide rod.

Fact is, any "NM guide rod" is an improvement over the standard flat rods that are issued with the rifle. The NM rods assist in reducing wear of moving parts due to equalizing and truing the spring compression. They also assist in consistant return to battery. Some users also report decrease in group size as an added benefit of installing one of these simple upgrades. Both Gothmog and NEA make excellent NM guide rods and I recommend both.

I was just on brownells yesterday, according to their international shipping policy...

"There are a number of items which Brownells sells which need US State Department approval and an export license before they can be shipped out of the country. The regulations are complex and constantly changing but our staff is here to help you understand what is needed and will gladly work with you to correctly accomplish the task.

Generally speaking, items which usually need a license are:

Frames
Receivers
Barrels
Barrel Liners
Various other gun parts such as triggers, sears, ejectors, magazine tubes, scopes, and other items if the ordered amount is over $100.00 US."

and...

"Canadian customers are required to provide and Import Authorization which states that you can import firearm components. Our Department of State will only accept a certified English translation of this import permit. DO NOT send your original copy because you will need it to receive the goods when they come to you."

So you not only need the export permits and whatnot from the US side...you need to bury yourself in red tape up here too.

I was looking at a Smith Enterprises muzzle brake, a spring set and a few other goodies for the m14 I want to order once my damn PAL finally clears and comes in...but in the meantime I will try and source what I need here north of the border.
 
It depends what you order.
I just order a bunch of stock parts, M1A buttpads, an oprod guide (not a guide rod), and an M1A bolt roller set. Zero issues from brownells, order was under 100

And I think that reagrdless of jumping thru hoops and paperwork, because Sadlak let the export cert for the guide rod expire, it can't be exported to canada , period.

NOT TRUE. I just received my SADLAK NM op-rod spring guide a week or so ago from TreelineM14 .com They are great to deal with, ship really fast and HAVE A $500.00 LIMIT to international exports as opposed to the usual $100.00 limit. I also just received, days ago, another order of USGI M14 internal parts...total order value was almost $200.00 It can absolutely be done (shipping firearms parts internationally that is) but most business use the export law as an excuse...they just don't want to go through the trouble to set it up for whatever reason. The only thing they can not send up to us is barrels, complete trigger assys, and complete actions.
