I've been considering purchasing one of these for my 12.5 D.A. Grizz. I was wondering how people have been liking theirs ? Comfort wise , ergonomics and so forth. Im 5'10" with average reach.

I found one for cheap at a gunshow and tried it out, mainly because it brought my shotgun down to minimum OAL. That's really its only virtue. Like all Hogues, it has a good recoil pad and comfortable grip, but the length of pull is way too short for someone my size, or yours. The short length puts my shooting-hand thumb into my nose unless I keep it on top of the grip.

It would be great for kids or other smaller shooters. For someone your size, not a great idea, unless you just want to play around with something different.

Thanks for the input! My intention was to bring it down to the shortest possible lenth but I dont feel making the o.a.l. 2" shorter is worth sacrificing comfort and ease of use. I'll order the regular l.o.p. stock. I just love the grip of hogue stocks , even on the hottest sweaty days my hands dont slip.

I'm gonna go with the regular lop hogue stock. I have a couple of shotguns with pistol grips and i like a lot them but I'd rather have a monte carlo style stock for this one. I get anoyed with the pistol grip when hiking , the pistol grip is always snagged on something. 31"oal length with the regular lenth stock wont kill me

I got one last summer and I don't much care for it. I'm 6'3" with a orangutan-like build so it's way too short for me. When I'm wearing a backpack with thicker straps it isn't horrible. It's main virtue is that my 5'5" fiance can now shoot my Mossberg a lot more comfortably/ confidently. As it's my bear/ zombie/ HD gun, I wanted her to be as comfortable as possible with it if ever she needed it.

a too short stock makes recoil worse, and makes a repeatable sight picture next to impossible. I'm about your height and I need 1" extension on a standard stock for an 870 to fit me correctly. I'd say go adjustable so you can have it both ways

If you are looking for the short LOP stock, I suggest you try one before you buy it. I have a Hogue 12" LOP on my 5901A1 and I find it too short so I added a slip on Limbsaver and its perfect at about 13" LOP. Otherwise, I really like the Hogue stock and forend but 13" seems about right length for me.

I have it on my 12.5". I just got it for the looks, it isn't the most practical. As others have posted it makes recoil worse, has poor ergonomics, and makes it hard ot get a good sight picture. It looks cool though!:)

I actually prefer the short stock. I've got one on my 12.5 grizz and I find it pretty comfortable to shoot. I'm 6' and broad, and it doesn't feel too short. I actually prefer to be right snug. The grip is night and day to the original stock. The hogue is very nice to grip, and I find it's really nice in wet or cold conditions. I didn't notice the increase in kick at all, but you do have to make sure you don't punch yourself in the face with your thumb lol. IMO it's a great stock. It's my bear/camp gun, nice and compact.
Hope that helps

Here is mine I'm still mounting the stock, just got it.

I find the LOP makes it feel a bit cramped or choked up, but it also lends a feeling of being compact and easy to swing around in the tight space. It's not for every use but for a camp gun or perhaps self defense its an extremely comfortable set up.

I put one on my 14 inch 870 this year.

Great with heavy clothing or a Reactar pad. Very comfortable and shoots great.

I have a T1 Micro so I haven't had to worry about hitting my face.

Long time browser of CGN, first time poster.

Might be a stupid question, but I'll shoot:

LuckyLuc, I'm assuming the addition of this stock to the 8.5" would find itself in restricted territory? If you could, would you be able to post the OAL of the shotgun with the Hogue 12"?

By the way, the gun looks great!

Cheers.
