The 760/7600 Club

What kinda grainage do you load that gorgeous little lady up with to tame them brutes? Nice gun ain't no better then a pump IMHO!;):D

Between green box Remingtons in 150 gr. and 180 gr., it likes the 180's a wee bit better, or at least well enough to get 150 yards over the pond to take this "brute" ;).

I have only ever seen them in .270 and .30-06. I have one in .30-06 and it is a very nice gun.

.30-06 is the more common one, not that there are many around. I did handle a .308 at a local shop one day, but didn't take it home. Soon after it was gone...

He might not be brute in horn and body size, but he's a brute in the tastiness department! nice;)

Couple questions, would you preffer the 150 or 180 grain psp CL's? I know your gun like the 180's that buck sure didn't, but what would you preffer?

Or were they the big round nose CL's? Anyway good shootin Nine!

Trap,

I've always used the PSP Core-Lokts as my go-to deer hunting bullet. In the thick stuff or way yonder across a beaver meadow, that bullet has not failed me yet. This particluar .308 760 I tested with Federal Powershock 150's, Rem PSP CL 150's & 180's. The PSP CL 180's grouped best.

Awesome, don't mean to bombard you with question, I've fired everything from 150's to 220's outta mine everything is just as dead, just a little more grenade with 150's...Last question, factory carbine or custom? Accuracy 18 1/2" vs 22" just wonderin cause i been thinkin of gettin mine chopped down;)

Had a smith cut & re-crown it at 19" rather than 18 1/2". I left 1/2" of wiggle room in case I every had to fix a damaged crown/rifling.

I know people have different opinions on "chopped" 760's/7600's versus factory carbines, but this rifle was no safe queen when I acquired it. I use it for what I bought it for; a no nonsense deer getter that gets ridden hard, but always put away cleaned, lubed & loved :bigHug:

I couldn't tell you if the shortened barrel impacted accuracy. I can tell you that my 760 groups 1 1/2" as compared to my .270 Model 70 Featherweight which groups 1 1/4" with the same brand of factory ammo. IMO the difference is that the Model 70 has a better trigger.

Hey nine pointer who cut and crowned your rifle? Frank Ryan? How do they reattach the front site? I'd imagine it is drilled and tapped. Sweet gun.

I think you have convinced me to take my barrel down to 19":D It shoots quarter sized holes all day long with the 22" barrel at 80 yards with peep sights, a shorter barrel will be nicer to carry!

Hey, I just found this thread. Count me in the Club with 3 - 760/7600 but I have owned/traded-off a bunch more, easiest rifle to sell in Central Ontario.

About 15 years ago I assembled a lightweight carbine by cutting down a 22" barrel .308Win to 19", changing the stock to a black Ram-line, adding an old Lyman Aperture Sight, Jumbo-headed Safety and Boonie-Packer Safari Sling. As age caught-up to my eyes I took the peep off and installed a Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5 with thick duplex.

I suspect it will be the deer gun I hunt with till I die, and then I may be buried with it ................. because if Heaven is as good as believed, then it will be the 1st Monday in November year-round! Mike

Here is ..... THE "KING OF THE EASTERN WOODS DEER RIFLE". ;)

If you Alberta guys would ever get out of your trucks and hunt, you'd want something like this as well. :D

Now I have to go out and buy a truck to hunt from. This forum is costing me so much moneyH:S:

I have no clue how to post pictures...I wanna put my baby up! She's the love of my life but I can't get pictures up, she gently weeps waiting to be seen :(

rem can't beat them the harder you use them the better they work .I have two 1 was my father's 30 06 made about 1950 .mine is a 270 win 1974 ,a good number of deer have gone down ,and as for the little noise of a rattle of a loose four arm when they go ker-wamb I don't think the deer mind the noise P.S. I have two 870 wingmasters and a rem pump 22 as well can't beat them

I bought a mint 35 whelen a while back and had it cut from 22 down to 18 1/2 and front sight remounted. Accuracy increased noticably and it handles much better in the bush.

I did the same with a 7600 Whelen, but cut it to 20". It's the best compromise between the two. I wouldn't go shorter.
