Suggestions for Rail systems

You should not have to cut off the delta ring if you have a pin punch and an AR15 barrel wrench.

Remove the barrel (easy) and drif out the pins holding on the FSB. Remove the delta ring and save it in your parts bag, then re-install everything. Unless it's a Norinco, this should not be hard to do.

Yeah I'd call that the hard way, cutting off a $3 dollar delta ring seems much easier.

But you're right, if you wanted to salvage the ring then that'd be the way to do it. Most guys aren't comfortable removing the barrel and so on...

I'm more comfortable for sure just cutting the Delta ring off, I have some pretty good blade skill. Removing the barrel on an AR, i have never done, so it starts to leave my comfort zone.

To do that you'd need a punch set, barrel wrench and a vise block set. All can be had at Brownells.

It wouldn't hurt to have head spacing gauges either...

Good to know thanks, making a list for order :D to have just incase i go crazy and try it

A 10oz ball peen hammer & a buffer tube/castle nut wrench would be good additions aswell. The castle nut wrench is only like $7 bucks...

My box of gun tools is always evolving, it's funny how fast you build up quite the tool box...

your not that far north maybe i'll just come by with a 12 pack and get the job done there lol

i went with the troy route as they are the only ones that offer a 13"+ rail for under $300.

i should be getting mine from joe tomorrow. post pics after my new ar gets a do over by casey.

Those are tools I do not have in my collection, Something i might need to invest in.

You are welcome to borrow the barrel wrenches and any other tools you might need for the swap.

With the proliferation of FF rails and tubes, and the continued development of their ease of attachment, there is no good reason to stick with one that doesn't float the barrel.

DD Omega rails are a good alternative, they're drop in free floating rails took 5 mins to install and all you need are Allen wrenches which it comes with
