Get Tough, Dammit!!!! (...addressing firearm weight issues) Youtube review

I think a lot of people in here are neglecting one of the most important aspects which is physical fitness. I mean, when you're starting to see threads like "What Should I Include In My 10KM-Walk-Home-SHTF-Bag", then you know there's a problem.

Quite a bit of weight in that pullup picture above. I'd wager about 160 lbs for the hummer tire, plus maybe another 40 lbs of gear. You can actually see the guy's lats bulging through that frumpy BDU blouse. Dollars to donuts that's the only guy in his unit that can eek out even one pullup with that much weight. I can muster 10 pullups with 75 lbs of extra weight in a backpack, but 200 lbs?

Now I want a stronger pull up bar!

Personally I don't like any extra mags on my rifle. This includes those redimag devices. I would rather add half a second to my reload than add a pound to my rifle.

BUT when you have to have a mag and weapon with you at all times but you're not wearing your rig (dressed in flip flops and board shorts), the butt stock mag pouch becomes useful.

Kinda useful in Israel where the conscripts have to carry their weapons everywhere with a mag attached to the weapon, but not loaded.

Some people cannot even do 3 without weight on their back. And also, it is pretty useless to lift 300 lb but there is no cardiovascular ability to back it up.

I think this tells something, just because so and so special forces guys use HK416 with S&B shotdot + other gadgets, it does not mean the average joe can do squat with the same setup, other than walking from the parking lot to the bench.

Buttstock mag pouch tend to get in way of Mr. Charging Handle -- its a FOBBIT tool.

You don't leave it on there. You strap it to the rifle when you are back at camp.

I rigged up a TT single mag shingle that I could clip to my sling. When I went out on patrol I simply unclipped it. Easy peasy.

Kev, don't get me wrong, I think the butt stock pouches are ghay too, but plenty of guys had them just because when we were back at camp we were ordered to always have a weapon and mag with us. These people would take great offence to being called a FOBBIT.

There is a big difference between hard and stupid and the pull up with the tire pole vaulted past that libe.
S is for SEAL, oddly stupid also starts with a S. ;)

If I carry a 12lb gun - its going to be a 7.62mm gun.

That said I'm off to Bragg for 2 weeks of shooting package stuff -- I'm shooting a lite gun...

Angry -- I'm commenting on the pouch. I know a lot of people use them, and they are dead stupid to leave the wire with them on. Frankly the Red-Mag/Mod is the best way I know of to carry a mag on a FOB.
Especially on a C7A2/C8 with the collapsible stock - the buttstock pouch has no choice but to get in the way.
Its dumb and folks who know better should sort out those that dont.

I can carry a heavy gun around all day if I wanted too. But if I can get a gun that is lighter, while still having the same performance, then I'll take the lighter firearm every time.

It's not about being a wuss, it's about being smart.

This guy sounds like a clown. Gotta love how he talks about how soldiers back in the day would carry around B.A.R's and Garands. Well, the loadout of a soldier is a lot heavier today than it was back in WWII. Sure, the guns were a bit heavier, but they also weren't carrying around the amount of equipment our guys today carry. Ounces turn to pounds, which can make a big difference when on foot patrol (so I've been told).

Now I'm not a soldier, never have been and probably will not ever be unless my country really needs me. But from people who I've talked to who have this experience, as well as reading other sites full of guys with a lot of combat experience (i.e. lightfighter), they will tell you a lot differently than what this guy says.

I agree with his point of getting stronger and fitter, that has benefits all around. But if you can save weight on your equipment, why not?

Well said Kevin.

Unfortunately the realization of this for many is after the injury...

...NOT that I would have any first hand knowledge of this!

:p

No Not you bro ;)

Yeah you could fill a BN easy, of troops who where injured in training etc. Worse who thought they could soldier thru injuries and made them worse -- like someone above...

The issued one.. Yes yes it is. However, a tt single pouch with one malice clip, 1/3 wieght "para" cord and some lashing skills ; one butt stock mag pouch that did not interfere with the charging handle, kept the mag secure, was still functionaly accesable and did not move around.... Ever....

Even with all the #### on my rifle it never topped 10 pounds.
