Just bought a brandy new Colt Rail Gun with '100 Years of Service' rollmark with the thought that I could use it the brandy new IPSC Classic division.

Just found out today that railed frames are not permitted. Why not? I bought it that way. Is it not 'classic' enough? Where do I go to complain?

Didn't do enough research on this one -

Oh well - it's still a nice gun -

I know, it is silly.
Those rules under 3 years probation according to IPSC secretary. Try to call your sectional director if this model will be allow to shoot in LI or II in your section as a CD gun. I don't know, maybe they will allow it???

Bull barrels weren't on original guns either but they are allowed in Classic...
USPSA recognizes Railed guns.

Also, there were no bull barrels, race trigger, huge beavertails and list go on.
I think we should ask different question, what kind of advantage he is getting having the rail and why CD rules are not based on USPSA SS rules? SS rules have been around for some time and they have iron out few things over the time.
CD is fresh and I am very happy that IPSC has recognized 1911 genre, however some of the rules are hard to swallow.

When the 1911 was first produced, there was nothing to put on a rail.

Can't ya just grind it off?:D

Actually thats not a bad idea, all the rules say is no accessory rail, machine the piccatinny rail slots off and you should be GTG, its no longer an accessory rail...

1/2oz - that's the difference between a XSE and the Rail Gun (36oz -> 36.5oz)

BTW I'm happy too for the CD - there is a whole generation of ppl that grew up thinking that the 1911 was the coolest gun ever - myself included. I hope that once the division matures - rules like these will mature as well...

You can shoot lvl 2. As for lvl 3... Well... I have a Para GI Expert that I can trade you. Gun for gun. :D

Nope - I bought this gun 'cause I liked it - and I fully intend to put many holes in many pieces of paper with it - :D :D :D

yeah i dont really get how they decided on classic having no rails, but allows mag funnels and bull barrels. IMHO rails look ###, but offer no advantage. Where mag funnels definitely do, and bull barrels kind of do.

I have no idea what the original thought is behind this decision -

But IMHO - and believe me I'm not qualified in any way, CD should be a factory stock division. IOW - just the way it was brought home from the store be it 1 day ago - or 100 years ago

Now I realize that with enough $$$ you can buy some really exotic hardware, but then why would you compete in CD?

If the idea was to stay true to the original 1911 - nothing but a Colt GI issue would be allowed.

So lets relax a little bit and have some fun with these guns - they look cool and they shoot very well and save the drama for the soap operas...

What does the level of the match have to do with the cost of a gun or what gun anyone would shoot at that match?

phatman, you might change your thoughts on that if you shoot some hardball with an original spur hammer and beavertail.:)
