Hi Folks. Was cruising the evil EPay the other day and came across a listing for a sight described in the title (LB marked micometer) it was listed as rare and they wanted a ungodly amount of cash for what seemed to me a fairly common item. This is the normal style with the knob on the top ,not the Cmark3 style. Superimposed LB on the left top of the sight. So guys any insight or is this just a huge cash grab. Thanks all.

I went back and checked it was 100.00 and one person had bid on it,so far. I couldn't figure out why so much, so I had to ask.

Canadian made Mk. I sights aren't all that common. Correct for a '41 or earlier '42 production.

They only made them in 41 early 42 so not to many were made with the mark of Canada i have seen them sell anywhere from $70 to $200 dollars i bought 3 last year. They are rare but not as rare as some people let on Savaged marked are the same which is something i am looking for at the moment.

Not rare at all around these parts. To tell you the truth, I had never seen a Mk.III sight until last year when I purchased a good size lot of enfield parts that had a few LB Mk.III along with some micrometer sights as I was more familiar with.

As for value, $35 to $50 is more realistic. The previously quoted $70-$200 is a complete rip-off as sporterized LB's sell for $125-$150 and in my experience, most often come with a micrometer sight.

Micrometer sights were made by different contractors.Same thing, but different when it comes to collecting and putting it back to the way it was when it first started out. And I think I read that Long Branch sights were incremented in 25 yds per click while the Brits were 50 yds per click.

Ya you said it a rip off but that is evil-bay for you.

I wish they were common in the US. Stop hogging them all! I had a heck of a time finding one for my 1941 Long Branch that didn't break my piggy bank. Then again, if someone has one for sale that not would involve me selling a kidney...

A few years ago I was looking for one at the gun shows here in Ontario. I asked a dealer who only seemed to sell Enfields about one and he laughed at me, and told me good luck finding one. Well let me tell you, I sure showed him. Paid some fleebay guy big bucks for a nice one

You mean like this?

It's on a Savage No.4 Mk1* I picked up for $300.

I bought it because the sight was so unusual. I'd never seen a Long Branch micrometer sight before. I also really like the small, battle sight hole.

When I got the rifle home, I noticed it had a Parker Hale front sight blade too.

Then, when I pulled the trigger, I noticed how crisp it was with almost zero take-up. It has been tinkered with at some point.

I figure it must have been a target rifle in the past. It even has a unit disc in the buttstock.

And it's mine, all mine!

The reference I go to whenever these questions arise is, Charles (Skip) Stratton's book "British Enfield Rifles, (Vol 2) No. 4 and No. 5 Rifles, 3rd Edition revised", North Cape Pubs dot com. My copy is not under my elbow ATT, but he gives the breakdown on Marks, Numbers and variations. Worth the $20.
