m91/30 loose front sight

hi guys bought a realy nice 91/30 from the usual supplier .its a 42 ishveck with a better than usual bore.stock seems to be mid to late war with 2 repairs i realy like this rifle.after stripping cosmo off i found i could move the front sight with my fingers its very loose.do the sights themselves wear or is it the barrels base.first time ive seen one of these that wouldnt run right of the box.maybe ill pull the one off my pu scoped refurb hmmmmmm?pics up soon

Do you mean the top portion moves or the whole assembly moves on the barrel? If the whole assembly movesthen it needs to be soldered. if on the top piece moves then you can tighten it up by peening the dovetail slighlty. Go easy if you peen it too much it wont fit back in.

If the top portion is moving only, I figure a little drop of Locktite (the blue one, of course...) will fix the problem. Just shoot it and adjust the front sight before! ;-)

no just the sight moves the base is fine maybe ill try tradex for parts.im not sending the rifle back ,shipping is wayyyy too much and who knows what the replacement will look like.

Then you just need to peen the base. Peen it just enough so the sight will have a good press-fit. You can use a C clamp to press the sight back on the base, better than pushing with a punch.
