Xcr-m - finally here!!!

Hey everyone, actually made it out today, it warmed up enough not to completely freeze. I ended up putting another 160 rounds of the South African ammo though the rifle today, without any sort of glitch what so ever. Tried some reloads I made especially for this rifle, and those jammed again, and issue I have pin-pointed to improperly full length size die adjustment.

Anyways, enough of my woes. Below is one of the targets I was shooting at with surplus 150 gr ammo, the range, as mentioned before, only goes out to 100m. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Please don't ask about the hole to the right...That was from another group...

Unfortunately, I was not able to find any match ammo, mind you I didn't look too hard. This week I will be working on my reload situation, and trying to get that figured out before the long weekend.

I also took a short video, where I was shooting at a steel plate. It wont upload, so i will have to try tomorrow...

I will answer all questions from above in a separate post, if there are any others, please let me know!

I also have a load using 150grn accubonds that is consistantly under an inch

Doesn't surprise me at all. I suspect velocity being the issue with the shorter barrel. Which would help explain why the 145 shoots better than most factory 150 grain out of the RFB. If you're loading them a bit faster then you're doing the same thing as going to a lighter faster 145 factory round.

One round I have a few of but not much left are the Lapua 167 grain match ammo. They are about 140 fps faster than the Federal Gold. They might be a good match for these shorter barrels. I plan on trying some out later on.

Got mine today, put 150 or so rounds through it.
Had to locktight the stock bolts and gas plug as they came loose. :p
Ran some federal gmm 168 grain through it and a bunch of mfs 145 grain.
It's accurate, looks like 1 moa with the gmm, and 2-3 moa with the cheap mfs.
It shoots the mfs more accurately than any bolt action I've had :D
The gmm made banging steel turkey silouhettes at 500 yards relatively easy, despite using a low magnification scope (swfa 1-4).

The most dramatic thing about the xcr-m though is the super soft recoil impulse.
It feels like a rifle length gas system .223 ar with no brake. Maybe even smoother than that.
Very controllable for carbine drills and what not.

I'm blown away so far, we'll see how it holds up in the long run though...
Looking forward to doing some formal accuracy testing with full documentation, and getting a load worked up for this thing.

It is heavy, but my 110 pound wife can hold it in the ready position for a minute or more, so it's not really a problem, just a discomfort ! :D

How do you adjust the gas system on this one? Is the adjustment on the side? Do you need a tool?
Why did you take off the irons ntm?
Nice guns guys. I think my XCR L needs a big bro.

There's a dial on the side of the gas block that is adjusted with the base of a cartridge (or screwdriver).
I took the irons off because the scope mount I've got on there isn't quick detach.

holy crap.... 1.125" at 100m with that south african stuff is incredible. Can't wait to get mine. Gonna have to wait another week for the scope though :(

^^^ need more of wife

I feel the same way when you post pics of your suppressors, is that wrong ? :D

How effective is the butt stock at spreading the recoil over the base plate?

As in felt recoil ?
Great I guess, I didn't notice any discomfort, or revectoring of the recoil energy in any strange way.
The stock is directly inline with the barrel, recoil is a small, soft push, straight back.

I looked at the skinny buttplate and figured it might make a guy a little sore after one of those 500+ round days, but it really is a pussycat. I'd run a multiple day carbine course with it without hesitation.
If I'd shot it in some kind of blind test, you could not convince me that it was a 308, I'd never believe it.

Thanks ntm. Care to post a pic with that bipod on there?

That bipod was on and off pretty quickly, more weight on the front was not a good thing :p

Just got mine yesterday...:)...got the wifey to approve a range day this coming long weekend so I'll get outside and test drive all three (one in 7.62x51, one in 7.62x39, and one in .223!). Woohoo!

Out in the garage loading up some handloads to try now!

Will post range report sometime shortly thereafter...

She's far from silent, she's a trainer at the crossfit gym I go to.
It's sucky to have your wife yelling at you to man up, get back on the bar and crank out 50 more pull-ups, etc., when you're already flattened, lol :D

Quick little clip from yesterday, give you an idea of recoil:

I think she holds him at the door while he brings new toys in the house. Handles the new hardware before handling her husband type of thing!!

That things a blast Nathan, can't wait to play with it again!!

were your reloads crimped using something like lee factory crimp?

Maybe they just didnt build enough steady presure inside the case before the bullet leaves, or your reloads were below factory presure?

Maybe this women's lib thing is ok after all ;) Fitting pics on the day the Conservatives puke out the non-restricted gun registry...

Thanks for the vid ntm, awesome. I'm convinced that it is "you" shooting a very soft recoil rifle by the scope the M is wearing. Very well done and my best to the Missus :D
