I am researching my next pistol to buy. I currently have a 9mm Steyr but hopefully in the near future would like to get a 45 Auto. I have always liked 1911s, I think they feel and shoot fantastic. I already have a polymer safe action pistol so I want something different like a 1911 - only 1911s are.. well, so common. So with that vain logic, I am wondering about the CZ97B.

I almost bought the CZ75 Shadow, great pistol I know. But how does the 97B fair? Is it as reliable and solid as it's smaller sibling? How would you compare it to the 1911 platform? Are there any other pistols with SA/DA metal frames in 45?

Your thoughts?

The 97B is 1/2 the price of the P220 ES. I'd jsut get a regular P220 but that's not a steel frame like the 97B.

For 45 acp get the 97B or a 1911.

Just make sure you handle it.

I find it very large in the grip, front to back, and it is a heavy gun, especially compared to the Steyr.

I am really liking the Ruger P/KP345! Hands down the most comfortable .45acp I have ever handled. Priced very well to.

There's a reason 1911s are "common". They're still the best platform for the 45acp cartridge. They're an absolute classic. Just like every well-dressed man should have a blue blazer in his closet, a pistol collector should have a 1911.

I agree every collector should have at least one 1911. But I can have both CZ97 and a budget 1911 for the same price as a premium 1911. However, I'm not gonna settle on a budget.

I did notice that the CZ has wider double stack grip, but I think you can easily replace the wood grips. The 10 round mag is sweet though.

There may be a lot of 1911s, but there are not a lot of YOUR 1911. YOUR 1911 will be special. It is YOURS. It is a wonderful feeling that you should not deny yourself. Day's will seem brighter, nights more restful, bad guys will fall faster and the birds will sing the song of angels as you happily walk down the street, safe in the knowledge that YOU, not that guy, or that guy, own YOUR 1911.

I think you have been watching too many ###### commericals on TV Ha Ha

Don't cheat yourself with a lesser design. JMB did it right, pick yourself up a good and proper 1911 and you'll never look back.

If you want a .45 that isn't a 1911, the best choices are a S&W M&P, Glock 21 (SF or 4th Generation), or HK45.

I've shot both, owned a 97b and sold it. I like the 1911 or a sig for better balance. I found the 97b to be top-heavy, therefore it had an unusual recoil that I couldn't get used to. But that's my opinion. Others love the 97b. 45 is expensive unless you reload. I'm a huge fan of the Sig platform... even selling my 75b in favour of a 226.
