Remington 742 woodsmaster .308 carbine

A stick will do the same!

I already have a Savage 111 .308 and my Tikka .300winmag. I wanted a nice little gun for doggin. Maybe I should just buy a Win 94 30-30 off him instead? he's got a half dozen of them as well, one is a trapper model?

A 30-30 is not much better than a stick, and more expensive for sure.

Thanks for all the replies guys, Keep em coming!

I think I'm going to just borrow the 742 and put a few boxes of shells threw it and see how I like it.

I had a gun counter guy tell me today that 742's aren't THAT bad, its the 740 that are jammomatic!!

My dad has a 740 in .280 as well and I've shot that thing dozens of times and never jammed! my dad used this gun for moose hunting for 20 years and NEVER jammed LOL

what the hell

Ive seen a 7400, 740, and a 742 jam within the last 2 years at my camp.

I'd go with the Win 94 Trapper if I were you.

I have a lot of experience with the 742. I also have a lot of parts from ones that could not be repaired due to a buggered receiver. I would stay away from them.

Ok you guys convinced me Not to buy this gun. Probably for the best.

He showed me a Browning BPR .243 today he would sell me for $500. I've never seen a pump browning before, it looks just like a BAR but its a pump.

Thoughts?

It's not like the gun you buy will be the last or only gun you ever buy, right? Pick one, try it out and if you don't like it, put it away and buy another! That's what everyone else does, right? Right?:D

We have one in 30'06, and it is awsome. Its my dads and he has shot TONS of animals with it. It also brought down my first deer. As far as the jamming i hear about on here me or my dad have never experienced this. I clean it twice a year and it works like a charm. I would say get it hands down.

In my young and tender years, I had a yearning for a semi-automatic centerfire rifle.
Found a like-new M740 Remington in 30-06.
It shot Winchester's 180 Silvertip ammo into less than 1½ moa consistently.
I shot a fair bit of game with it over a two year [3 hunting seasons] window.
I kept it clean, and experienced zero problems with it.
Then I started reloading, and found it was a bit finiky about reloads, so sold it off and bought a new 700 in 30-06.
I know many have had issues with the M740/742/4/7400, but I cannot actually complain about the one I had.

gtrussel is a bit of a troll when it comes to the 30-30. And anything else he doesn't personally use for that matter. Please don't encourage him.

Never seen him make a post containing a single word of contribution on subject being discussed.

Troll ??? partially...I think he's just a smart aleck kid that would like to think he knows something about whats being discussed:(
