mossberg 590 a1 or rem 870

:agree:
My 500 lives in the cab of my truck but if I'm going to do any real work , hunt or play I take my 870. I keep the 500 in the truck in case I get into a pinch , it'll go bang... I just prefer the fit , feel and action on an 870.

Another +1 for the 870 here. I love mine, its never let me down and its been through some rough use in the bush. Its and express and its NEVER rusted

I owned 3x 590A1s and 2x 870s.
I now have 2x 590A1's. A 20" with GR sights and a 14" bead both with speed feed stocks.
I prefer the position of the Mossbergs controls vs the Rems.

I also prefer the controls and loading ease of the the 590. My turkey gun is an 870, but mainly because I had one; it patterns amazingly well, and I like the ShurShot stock for turkey hunting. My only issue with the 590A1 is the weight, if you're going with the 8+1 20". I had an SPX and sold it. Bought a regular 590 with the lighter barrel, swapped in a metal trigger group and safety, and had a shotgun that balances much better. Not going to be beating anything with the barrel, so I can live with the thinner tube.

I'd get a rem 870 supermag, have that extra 1/2 inch if you ever want it. Buy a short 12.5 or 14inch barrel for ease of packing in the bush. Love the milled steel receivers of the 870, a true beast. Lots of accessories for 870 as well, tons for mossberg but I would contend the selection is better with the 870. Also, used parts, meh, I don't know but I would also bet it's easier to find used parts for 870's than 590's.

I'm noticing a lack of threaded barrels for the Mossbergs in 18.5" or 20" barrel lengths. What's up with that? Am I looking in the wrong places or what.

Nice, dude! It says you're in Ottawa, does that go over well in the city?

There are less factory threaed barrels for the 870 in the shorter lengths as well.....it's a hunting thing.

Luckily getting a barrel threaded is pretty cheap.

What will you be using it for? Something to consider - if it is going to be a shotgun you will be taking camping or hiking, I would say get the 870 since you can get one with a 12.5 inch barrel, whereas the mossberg has a longer barrel - I've never seen one with a barrel shorter than 18 inches.

Not True! You can get the 14'' models (Mossberg) but you’re going to have to pay an arm and a leg when the US and Can enforced stricter import export laws, hence they don’t come in any more but you can find them!

I would go mossberg, from my personale experince they are very reliable (I have 2x mossberg's, tactd up.) One with a 18.5 and a 20''. I prefer the 20''.

It's goes over just fine. I adhere and follow the laws concerning the transport of non-restricted firearms and ammunition to a tee.

Any trouble with the cops? I know if that happened in the GTA, driving down Yonge street if someone were to see you/it it would cause a major hassle. Cheers!

See me|it? It is trigger locked in a case that is locked and bolted down out of sight in the cab. As i said i follow all the laws concerning transportation of a non-restricted firearm and then some.

My choice also came down to the 870 or the 590,and the 590 won out. Due to the remoteness of this place, I wanted to be able to swap out any parts that became damaged or worn, and this is just easier to do with the 590. Try to replace the ejector on an 870 or see how fast the gun ties up when the shell stops come loose, none of that is an issue with a 590.

I don't know why, but for some reason I thought you meant stored unloaded in a gun rack or cruiser style in your truck. Nevermind!

Easy choice is both, and not just saying that. Started with an 870 Express, sold it because I didn't like the finish, the design itself was superb. Got a Mossberg 500A, excellent shotgun. Wanted to experience a 870 Wingmaster, acquired one, nice finish and very smooth. Mossberg can be slickened up similar to a Wingmaster, but the Wingmaster has tighter tolerances so the slide action is sturdier and straighter. However, with the Mossberg, you know you can take it out into the wild and it will take the abuse because of those loose tolerances and the little bit of clunkiness in it's action. Wingmaster will survive out in the bush as well. Both are reliable, sturdy, and built to last. Both can be had for <$700 in excellent condition. You can't lose, so get both!
