recommendation for bolt action .22

Savage with the accutrigger - could spend 219 for a walnut mark II or more on the fancier models but the all SHOOT right out of the box and shoot well.

Those tube feed Marlin 981T and 983T are tack driver, maybe the tube feed rifle will make a comeback, i think only Marlin have them now... JP.

Savage is made in USA or Canada. I believe all their rimfire are made in Canada.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I don't really have a budged but I think I would have a very hard time trying to justify paying more then 1K for a .22
I also noticed that a lot more options open up if I drop the SS requirement

Those are pretty nice looking guns you have, I'll definitely will look at savage
Is Savage made in US or somewhere off-shore ?

I also read quite a bit about CZ and everyone speaks highly of them as well.

Gonna go against the grain here, but I bought a Mossberg 802 intel Plinkster, and i love it!

Great quality gun, easy to clean and cheap enough - I bought a package deal with a Simmons 3-9x 32

There are probably some better .22's around, but this one does the job for the price :)

I really like my CZ 452s. I previously owned a couple Savages. In my opinion there's no comparison and CZ is the way to go. You may feel differently so try to get your hands on a couple rifles to try out.

I'm a big fan of CZ's. They aren't perfect, but they are a real nice starting point in terms of build quality. I did notice that mine had a bit of a rough action, and required some polishing to make it really smooth. The trigger needed tinkering to get it down to a nice weight. The barrel rubbed the stock on one side and it needed sanding down. Still, on a $500 budget, I'd recommend the CZ, just don't want anyone thinking they get perfection.

Cant believe nobody has mentioned this little guy yet,

My FAVORITE bolt action ive ever handled, although.... ive never handled a savage before...

But i WILL tell you this thing is an absolute TACK DRIVER! cant really give the thumbs up to Winchester tho, its made in Russia by Tula (model Toz 78 i believe).
Either way... heavy barrel, adjustable trigger, smooth action, all makes for a ragged one hole 5 shot group at 75 yards. LOVE IT!
