Lever action questions

Just got back from bass pro and the have the marlin 336 in 30-30 with factory scope for 499.99

Don't buy that. Get yourself a nice used Marlin from the EE. The scope on that gun is most assuredly garbage. Not to mention that new Marlins are of questionable quality. With taxes you might as well just buy a used BLR from the EE. Either way, buy used. You'll get more for your money.

The great thing about leverguns is well they are leverguns..!! The best thing is the list is far shorter in what wont work than that of other inferior type of actions.
I personally will say grab a marlin, me i prefer the 35Rem cuzz it is cool, 200gr. got a bit of oomph!! marlins are easy to scope or not!!
Levergun gun people are nice to talk to we dont argue too much we are all passionate about what we shoot, its a win win or should i say win94!!

Regarding 35 Rem:
If ammo price is a factor in your decision (assuming you don't reload) then be aware that 'traditional' 35rem ammo (Win PP or Rem CL) is more expensive than its 30-30win counterpart. That price gap tends to diminish a little if you shoot that fancy LEVERevolution stuff.

A BLR in .358 is a totally under rated rifle and caliber. The guys that have them love them and swear by them. More power than you will need for just about anything and an easy 300 yard gun too.

Win 95 in 30-40 or 30-06, some good used ones out there and especially the '06 is a great all around cartridge. The guns are accurate well beyond the sight capability and if you ever want to hunt bigger stuff or a 300 yd shot presents you have a reasonable chance of making it if you practice lots.
Hard combo to beat as all around lever gun. JMHO
