Hello, I just recently moved from Toronto and I am looking for a handgun range in or very close to Edmonton.

I am not finding to many and they all seem to want to make me buy there ammo to shoot at there range.

I am looking for a club and not just a range to go shooting at...

Anyone know of any that are taking members?

Indoor: in Edmonton Phoenix Indoor range or Wild West Shooting Center in West Edmonton Mall (have to buy their bullets at a premium)

Outdoor: Spruce Grove Gun Club (20 min) or Sherwood Park Fish & Game (quite far)

If you want to use one of their range guns, you have to use their ammo. Only Wild West makes you buy their ammo even if you bring your own gun.

They all take new members. Lots of gun clubs in Edmonton, just do a search on the Internet.

Wait wait.. At Phoenix, you only have to buy their ammo if you shoot their guns. Bring your own gun and you can shoot anything you want (as long as it doesn't have a steel core).

Phoenix is an actual club, although very loosely most people just come and shoot. They have gotten very busy in the last year, but I still think they are the best in the city.

Sherwood Park Fish & Game is about 30 min from Edmonton but has awesome facilities. Even has campsites that are free to use for members.

P.S. PM me anytime, I'm always looking for people to go with. More fun than going alone.

There's CHAS too, for people on the north side of the city it's the same distance as the "Sherwood Park" range . . . in quotes because it should be renamed the Tofield range as it's closer to that town than Sherwood Park.

Not saying the Sherwood Park range is bad, far from it had a membership there but there are draw backs. One the distance, two the no guest policy and three no "human" shaped targets only pure targets no silhouettes.

Oh yeah, CHAS is 100/yr so cheaper too.

The membership @ phoenix is appox $700+ a year...but they do IPSC stage shoot on most saturday free for members from the months of oct to april...which is nice when you don't have to shoot outdoor when is flicky cold & windy. I kept most of mine brass for reload...try to pick up your hot brass from snow/ice...not fun. lol
I hope this help.

Where did you get 700?

Try 475 for new members and less for a renewal.

Yeap Phoenix is indoor with both pistol and rifle bays. They recently reno'd and it's a great layout now too.

CHAS is outdoor and 100/yr, it's a little out of town too.

Sherwood Park is 150 I think, not too sure but could be 175 too.

Yes, that was appox $475 for members renewal, the membership fee gone up after july 2012...if you're not a member before july 2012, it is appox $700 for the membership....I check it, wild West don't offer memberships (they only do walk-in)...and the membership cost@ phoenix in-door range is the cheappist in Alberta...which is not too bad.

700 bucks? Hahaha, not going to happen....

Its not as bad as you think...it is appox $2 a day...and I believed cost $50 more for an extra person (family member) to join as a member....so, if that is the case...it is appox$750 for 2 memberships in the house hold.........and if you shoot as much as I do....after gas(there & back)/ vehicle maintance cost...not much differents....I will shoot out-door during summer...but Alberta winter just too long.

The ranges at phoenix are more like 40 yards rifle and 25 yards pistol.
Unless they changed sherwood park recently they have a 300 meter range.
