Just fishing for opinions on using a red dot on a rimfire, anyone use one and either love or hate it? Any brand/model recommendations?
Thanks

All depends on cost. Do you have any black guns? I have the Lucid HD7 red dot. It's overkill on the 22 but when the time comes to buy an AR. I don't need to buy another sight. The tascos are ok but look really cheap to me. The strikefire also is cool but only has a 4 moa dot. The HD7 has 4 different reticals, the dot is 1moa so smaller. Plus a light sensor so you don't need to adjust the dot brightness.
The HD7 is $75 bucks more the the strike fire but for me, like I said it was an investment.

Good way to look at it. The HD7 is a nice piece of kit and we have one left at our sale price:

tasco red dot from Canadian Tire. $50 well spent

I'll second that. BTW, only $39.95 at my local CTC store!

When you take one out of the package, you'll be surprised. I expected it to be a cheap piece of crap, but I was amazed at how heavy & solid it was. Mounted up well on my Marauder 10/22, easy to zero, held dead on through the 300 rounds I blasted through it. Dot illumination seems plenty bright, even though I was shooting almost directly into the sun (the benchrest guys were giving up because, even with the sunshades on their scopes, they were getting too much glare). I never had to even max out the illumination - I used the 8 and 9 settings (they go up to 11) until the sun got less intense, then 6 or 7 worked fine. If you read the reviews on this one, guys are using them on big-bore rifles with heavy recoil, through thousands of rounds, with no problems at all.

The only downside is that the dot is a little big for over-100-yd. shooting. For 50 yards or less, it's great. Target acquisition is fast & easy.

I would have been happy with it if I'd had to pay twice as much for it - the quality is that good.

One thing to remember - there are two versions of the 30mm Tasco unit - the 30 mm BKRD30 (the one I got, which fits the Picatinny rails on my Marauder) and the BKRD3022, which fits smaller, .22 receiver grooves (3/8", I think?). They're the same scope, just with different intended mounts. Make sure to get the right one for your mounts.

Of course, I would like to have an Aimpoint, but I can't justify spending $500-$1000 on one for a .22 plinking rifle...

Bushnell 730132P 1 x 32 MP

Looks like an Acog without the pricetag.... about $150 cdn for mine if I am correct. 5 red and 5 green reticle settings, holds 0 very well. I have it on my 597vtr and have not regretted it one bit.

If you want cheap and dirty check out Dealextreme.com. I bought a BSA red dot, that is about the same as the tasco at Ukranian Wheel for 20 bucks. Pretty much everything is free shipping too, right from the supplier in China. Usualy takes btw 2 weeks and a month to arrive depending on what is in stock.

I have one of these on my ISSC MkII , nice sight at a decent price . Adjustable brightness on both colour settings , retical is call a T dot( T shaped with a dot in the center, not sure on the dot's MOA size) peferct for a black rifle in my opinion

+1 on the Tasco or Bushnell red dots. For $50 or less, you're GTG. No need to spend more on .22LR application red dots.

I have 20+ yr old Tasco PDP2s that still work well (one was on a 1911 45acp full race compensated custom)...made in Japan. Newer ones are Chinese or Korean.
