Texting gibberish. No caps, no punctuation. I think he meant longs are a rare find. Talking about rare finds, I found a part box of old, old long birdshot in my treasure the other day.:eek:
 
Shorts used to be popular, but are less so nowadays.
There used to be a competition in Europe for shorts only called Rapid Fire Matches.
But it has been discontinued, IIRC.
Shorts are still available from ELEY [called Rapid Fire Match] and RWS [R25]
Longs are available as CeeBee Longs only, from a couple of manufacturers.
The Long Rifle is the most highly developed and popular chambering
in the world. [and in history]
I have had the privilege of travelling a fair bit, and have yet to be in a country where 22LR ammo was not manufactured & available.

You are quite right about the Rapid Fire/ Duelling matches. The then UIT dropped the competition some time ago. Perhaps because of political correctness and not to offend many members of the UN as the discipline used an elongated stylized human form target. Since then there have been a number of the Rapid Fire pistols on the market including the EE here.

I never knew that they came in bricks till I came across a garage sale find, 2 yellow and red bricks of Super X shorts, boxes both in VG condition, FS
 
My grandfather had packs of .22 bb's and lr that he left me. Don't recall how many were in a box though. I do remember that the 50 round lr boxes had an ESSO sticker on it priced at 25 cents. Wish I had kept a box intact. My Dad tells me stories of when he and his friends would go shooting. They took the bus to the edge of town with rifles in hand. Buy three or four boxes at the gas station for less than a dollar. Then shoot all day long in farmers fields.
Gone are those days!!!!!!!
 
I have an Win.1890 in .22l...CCI CBlongs work like a charm in it. Available most places. I also use CCI CBshorts in some of my .22's. The CCI CB's are the only readily available s, and l that I can find. Must be more though

I'm old enough to recall people buying .22shorts 'cause they were a touch cheaper...not the case now.
 
We used to load up a Rem 552 with 21 shorts then go rabbit hunting, learned all about leading a running critter that way. Not all semi autos would handle all three types of 22 ammo.

A small correction if I may.
The original Olympic event (not European) was duelling and ultimately ended up using a .22 short semi-automatic which resulted in very low recoil. The match was fired on 5 targets, with 5 shot sequences starting at 8 second, then 6 second and finally 4 seconds.
The target was changed over the years from an elongated target, to a more oval target and then about 15 years ago to a large round bullseye target.
A few years ago (prior to Beijing Olympics I believe), the rules were changed to eliminate the .22 short pistols and make the .22 Long Rifle cartridge the one for the match.
For that reason there is a bunch of match .22 short ammunition kicking around, without a match to use it in. The .22 short pistols were very specialized and were made obsolete due to the rule change.
 
I have been shooting lots of CB shorts recently. They stock them by the thousands at lebaron.

They function really nicely in any manually operated action, and I have seen them work about 80% in some well worn in and very reliable semi's. Very cool when a semi is cycling them, better then a silencer almost. I have staple guns that are much louder then the CB shorts.
